I just landed Prison Planet ...

... and I like it. :)

The first thing I did was to go and look up the Keanou system in the Spinward Marches. It's in Lanth subsector, a little to rimward and trailing of Regina.

Has anyone else got the book? What do you all think of it?

It's good. I ran two of the scenarios (Alien Legacy, Outbreak) in the pre-release version. The release version is even better :)

I could see two of the scenarios kind of seguing into one another. Apart from introducing the scene, the whole "what're you in for?" "Got caught" sort of thing, the characters can establish themselves like Fletcher in the ancient TV series Porridge - never mind enemies, all those prisoners / staff / wardens are potential Patrons for the sort of things that only the player characters can do because they're fresh blood - and then settle them in with the "Power Play" scenario.

Basically, in that scenario ... well, I can't spoil it. It wouldn't be sporting. But there's a deus ex machina ending that neatly segues into the next scenario, starting on page 94, "Machines of Loving Grace," which is where things really get hairy.

Imagine, for instance, merging the story, and the principal NPC, of "Machines of Loving Grace" with "Alien Legacy." What sort of ending would you have then? :D

The Sources of Inspiration section has some omissions.

Where are the Fortress movies? Classic SF prison stuff, classic Christophe Lambert...

And Cell Block H has got more going for it than the Freak! ;)

It's utterly daft but Prison Break is notable by it's absence.

And honourable mention should go to the, probably obscure, Buried, a C4 Lenny James vehicle of a few years back, up there with Oz for drama.

Literally only just bought it, so this has to be the most minor of negligible criticisms possible. :)
