How to deal with stacking

Now, after reading a part of the Armageddon tournament thread, I´ve stumbled over an interesting passage: If I understand it correctly, you CAN put fighters onto the bases of the ships they attack, and it doesn´t count as stacking, but you CANNOT put counters ontop of each other, as this WOULD count as stacking, right?

Now, that left me with the question, how exactly stacking is defined:

Do the rules, as they stand, allow the bases of ships to overlap, as long as the minatures themselves are not touching/pushing each other? At my gaming group, we sometimes do that; but then we also use many of the larger GW flying stands, which leaves us with a severe space problem every now and then...

Or does the "no-stacking" rule really apply to basesize? With the added problem of course that sizes (even those supplied with same ships ordered from Mongoose) of bases tend to differ...

As I understand it:
- bases/counters of ships may not stack on eachother
- bases/counters of fighters may not stack on eachother

However bases/counters of fighters MAY stack on the bases/counters of ships as long as the two rule points above remain valid.

In the case of fighters stacking onto a ship counter, the center point must remain unobstructed?

Is that right?

Matt has not made clear what the limitations are as yet.

I read the rule in the book which does not allow a 'ship' to overlap another 'ship's base/counter. The is no specific mention of stacking in regards to aux craft other than aux craft ending their movement on a friendly base places them in supporting mode and there is a limit to how many fighters can do this. Matt has not addressed the limits in this regard, and has stated that he just thought it was understood that you could land on the bases.

Think that is all we have to go on right now.

From my understanding fighters may only ve on a ship base if they are attacking that ship, or if they are escorting that ship. Other than that, no stacking of counters/minis.

No stacking ok, but there is no rule to explain what to do when you cannot place your ships without stacking.

Exemple : a ship with no special action and speed critical. That ship cannot stop, and it cannot go very far away. But in its front arc, there is a 'wall' of small ships. All its possible final positions are already taken by a 'walling' ship. So, how to deal this that kind of situation ?

This is covered in the armageddon tourney pdf, to which non tourney players don't have access, you simply stop the moving ship at the first point along it's movement before the obstruction.

Sorry to the Mongooses if this is disseminating too much info. I'll delete the post if it is.

Personally as fascinated as I am with the new rules I think I could have waited a extra day so you could have cleared it, but thankyou. :)
