How much background would you like to see?

I'm writing away and it occurs to me as I start the fourth page of Soviet tanks of the Winter War that people may not want to read a lot of background.

For historical supplements describing specific campaigns, how much background do people want to read?

Do they want a detailed breakdown of what equipment people had, what formations they fought in, and the lead up to and aftermath of the conflict, or do they want an army list and some scenarios with a couple of pages of fluff preceding them?

This won't affect the army list size or the number of units in it, just how much accompanying fluff there is.

I would be tempted to keep it - we kept the rulebook relatively free of background info, but we'll be ramping it right up for the supplements. . .

Well, I think people had better prepare for a history lesson then. With armoured cars it's four pages long with no pictures in word 12 point font.

And Matt, are S&P open to having a preview/playtest list submitted (either Winter War Finns or Russians) for May or June (depending on when I can get the rule book and check on the final changes).

It would be about 10-12 A4 pages in all likelihood, though the Russian would be longer (more crazy tanks), and that would be without fluff.

Well Svoiet tanks and armoured cars ended up at 4 pages with no pics. Finnish weapons is a page and a half and counting.

S&P is more the kind of place for official additions to games, unless we are intentionally dangling something new in the air (like we did with VaS).

Its accurate.

How much you love tanks will decide whether you feel its relevant.

I plan on running the whole thing past a couple of people for fact checking, but everything I've put in so far has been confirmed off a couple of sources.
