How long to activate the Jump Drive?

1. Underway Replenishment reminds me, as to the exact time the jump bubble is formed.

2. If there is a canonical explanation, I either don't remember it, or missed it in the text.

3. Now, my view of it is that the bubble forms precisely at the entrance to the transition hole.

4. Expanding forwards like a soap bubble as the starship goes down the rabbit hole.

5. Snapping shut as the rear of the starship passes through the jump entrance.

That bubble making is mainly how I pictured it, only filled with smoke (representing the ship entering the bubble)

They would only go to a fixed location (otherwise you’d have to recalibrate the gate).

Once in the bubble, normal rules apply (no Hypertunnels to run into).

However, <100dtons could hitch a ride without any issues (if they could pay for the transit fee)

Otherwise, it is destroyed by the expanding jump bubble or warped by the jettison explosion.

That doesn't contradict the aforegoing, however it does confirm that that the jump bubble expands from some point, rather than leaping into existence.

I'd say it does come into existence just outside the starship hull, otherwise if it's internal, say the jump drive itself, you have to explain what happens to the contents of said starship.

Note that the bubble T5 refers to is a bubble of our normal spacetime and quantum fields - this bubble of normal space is maintained by the hull.

It is not hydrogen filled, it is a vacuum of four dimensional spacetime and the fundamental quantum fields of our universe maintained as a bubble of the quantum foam that makes up the jump dimensions.

In T5 the hull grid wiring maintains the normal universe field conformal to the hull and a metre or so extended beyond it. It is a field, not a bubble of hydrogen.
The jump bubble version extends the normal space bubble as a sphere around the ship, but again it is a field that maintains our normal space within, and once again it is not filled with hydrogen.
Maybe it's just me, but T5's jump grid sounds like a rip off of Space Master's Relative Inertial Field generator. My guess is MWM thought it sounded cooler than his original bubble idea and stole it.
He his quoted as saying many times how he took ideas from everywhere. From where I stand, that makes the OTU a free for all.

Not just T5; it dates back at least to MegaTraveller's Starship Operator's Manual. And it is hella cool.

You could try and shorten the time spent, whether dilatorily and/or temporily.

But that usually involves throwing a monkey wrench at the jump drive.

Just tapped into my T5 Books and discovered the Jump Inducer. Wish I had thought about them earlier- I guess it is time to update and be inspired.

This is one case where the rules are actually simplified by T5 derivatives.
