How is quality control over at Mongoose these days?

Mongoose
Hi,
after being away from the game for a while but V2 is drawing me back in.

After reading a couple of posts about tne new books being badly printed I was a bit worried about ordering them yet. Would it be worth waiting for a later print run?

Also before I went there was a few complaints about long waiting times for items ordered direct from mongoose. Just wondering if this has improved any?

Thanks

Gazza

The problem isn't the printing, although the Players Guide to Glorantha looks a little like a high quality photocopy.

It's the binding. This is an expert area, and Mongoose don't have that expertise.
None of the new books lie flat when closed.
Text is too close to the spine, meaning I have to really flatten it out to read the column closest to the spine. This will weaken and eventually break the binding. Pages all over the floor.

Can´t say anything about the printing, since I haven´t bought any recent books.

I can say however that the casting quality of many of the ships has really improved over the last months - I´ve had a few ships in fine conditions, which had received some pretty bad feedback a short while back. So things are definitely improving on this sector.

The designs of the miniatures are getting better as well - newer ships tend to be pretty good, still not quite on the same level as some of the old AOG designs, but worlds apart from the horrible Armageddon time.

Now, the delivery time is something else... MGP has shifted it´s focus on mail order customers, so things they have in stock tend to arrive pretty fast (even to other countries).

Stuff that isn´t in stock can give you some trouble, though - I´m still waiting for a whole range of parts that simply haven´t been delivered to MGP from their foundry yet. To me, it still looks like the production can´t quite keep up with the demand yet, and with all the new ships coming out with 2nd Ed., I´d be surprised if this changed anytime soon...

Just my thoughts of course, someone with more "behind the scenes" knowledge might have a word or two here

hey Gaz,

need to get a game sorted some time bud? still playing up in D_T_S??

i think my Narn list is a little more competeive these days.

The main issues with the books as I see it is the covers don't lie flat and the cropping of the pages at the edges, both of these should be fioxeable, I have some inhouse books that don't suffer from these, so it really is just a matter of a good QC system.
