How about : Generic Evo rule for any period ?

soulman

Mongoose
I must say i do like the simple system mongoose, and can be used for many ideas...
I myself
Ghost recon : more detailed combat system, more man to man
Zombies : Character based zombie system
Stargate : of the show
X-com : working on now
The future

This weekend i may throw up some Mech stuff for evo
Coming soon, modern day jet combat....

As you can see many uses on one system, maybe we should have a advanced rulebook, which we can design what ever we wanted, from cowboys to space battles etc....

They could publish a basic set of rules under the Open Gaming License and then let other companies work off the back of it......This would be a great way for MGP to introduce more customers to their wares if it took off.

Yes i think you right, mongoose said they are a rpg company, not a miniature company, so bring out a ruleset, and then add add-on books for other periods etc....

An excellent idea and something I would like to see but also something that is rather difficult to do well. SJG tried it years ago and failed, their wargame rules were never published and the project was abandoned.
Look at Warhammer 40K, it is derived from their Fantasy system and like other games derived from fantasy or historical games such as Legends of the Old West close combat is ridiculously overpowered.
Two Hour Wargames come as close to pulling it off as anyone I can think of but they have a common mechanism used with different rule sets which is not quite what we are talking about.
Scaling is the problem. If you want to use the same system with cavemen and plasma guns then things get nasty if you try to fit everything on the same scale. If you stick to genres you reduce this problem – though I suspect trying to squeeze melee weapons in with small arms is partly why their effectiveness is often so exaggerated. Judging from the Napoleonic wars at least the effect of melee weapons in modern times seems to be more psychological than physical but this is a big and rather contention subject that does not really belong here.

Well, that's why it needs to be very generic. Possibly too generic to be much fun without a background book. But then, I think the base rules that already exist are pretty generic; I'm not sure how much more you could add without getting into background-specific stuff. And I don't think there's much market for a four-page rulebook :).

Guys have you seen what i have done with the zombie rules...?

I have added traits to the characters only, and it really makes them stand out like
Lawyers are "Cowards " need to roll a 5+ to enter CC or shoot at zombies..

Fireman are "Brave" and are not "Scared" and of course Big axe...

Police have "Headshot " the zombies kill drops form 7 to a 6..

reporter "scared" needs a 5+ to enter CC

Stuff like that, i also added detailed hand to hand weapons..

Cricket bat stronger then baseball bat ( shaun of the dead.. )
Spades are "awkward " with the long swing and hard to hit..

Hand axe and sword has "Headshot as well "

And the chainsaw, dont fumble with friends nearby...

I put the rules together around 4 months ago, but since mongoose does not have zombie figs, it cannot be used for the S&P.. Bugger..!!!

Just like the lonewolf they did last month...
Is you wish the rules private me guys...

Over the weekend, i`m using evo to do jet combat, and so far its looking really good....

Did you read about my 15mm Evo battlefield rules...?

I have done the basic rules and wave 1, and they look quit good, for bigger battles....

They have a good little system going, each rule set with be a liitle differnet, but sticking to the core rules...

Thanks for reading........

It sounds like BFE rules applied to a table-top version of Resident Evil - hmmm, maybe? You would HAVE to find a way to put Ash in there somewhere!! A game like that is just not complete w/o some character running around with a chainsaw for a hand screaming "Shop smart - shop S Mart!!!"
