Hit location question

I've been prepping for a pretty involved space combat for my game next week.
It a ship has a small craft attached to it in an exterior cradle/docking clamp, how does it get hit?
Would you substitute one of the hit locations on page 151 core rules, maybe sub it for location 7 or 8 (and if the small craft is destroy then that spot reverts back to hull hits)
Or simply consider it as a "turret"? So if you hit a turret, you normally roll randomly roll to see which weapon is hit, but simply add the small craft as one of the turrets?

I think subbing either location 6 or 8 on the chart would be the most logical place for an externally attached small craft.
Any suggestions?

And on that same subject, I will note that small craft is left out of the internal damage chart. My best guess would to place it on location 7 (hold). Then you treat the hold like a turret, randomly rolling to see which hold is hit. But then you get to deal with a small crafts armor. How does a small crafts armor affect a "hit" on the location chart? If it's an exterior component, that's easy, you simply apply the damage directly. But if an enemy weapon manages to do internal hits, how does a crafts armor protect it?
My first thought is to handle it like an armored bulkhead. Each point of small craft armor negates on internal hit on the chart. Each successive internal hit on a small craft reduces it's armor by 1, which will need to be repaired.
Any suggestions?

Alternatively, assume that the fighter is fine but that it's disabled (cradles, hangar equipment and launchbay irises are destroyed so it can't leave the hangar but can be recovered).

I'm going to assume that an air/raft bay will be treated the same way.
Depending on size difference, the main cargo hold will get hit on 1-5 and the air/raft bay on a 6.
