High Guard 2022 meson bay TL question

Theophilus

Mongoose
While perusing High Guard this morning I came upon this and I am wondering if it is a misprint.
Page 32, small bay weapons.
Meson Gun Bay TL 11.
All other meson guns are TL 12

All other versions of traveller I'm familiar with have meson guns at TL 12.

Is this a misprint?

Meson Accelerator Vehicle Heavy Weapon in CSC is TL 15.

High Guard 2024 gives:
Small bay Meson gunTL 11pg 32
Medium bay Meson gunTL 12pg 33
Large bay Meson gunTL 13pg 33

so it looks like some sort of progression is intended.

I have the 2024 edition of High Guard 2022

Small Bay TL 11
Medium Bay TL 12
Large Bay TL 13

Seems like a linear progression

Spinal is TL 12

The author of 2e High Guard either deliberately changed it or didn't know HG80 well enough.

Under the HG80 paradigm weapons are introduced as 100t bay weapons, they get a higher factor as TL increases. The 50t bay weapon of the same type appears a few TLs later.

Nope, they where removed from the 2nd edition High Guard due to one of those orders from above things.
Another unverifiable water cooler conversation?

Sorry I don't buy it.

Either the author just hadn't looked at HG80, MegaTraveller, TNE, T4, GT, T20 - why do I mention them all? Because they all maintain the same start big then get smaller as TL increases and broadly agree on TLs.

Or it was a deliberate decision to have only one edition of the game that goes against every other version.

At the time Mr Miller had determined that mesons where no longer valid for bay weapons and could only fit in spinal mounts. It had nothing to do with any prior versions.

As for the TL change in the update I have no knowledge of that.

I keep hearing that story, and yet MWM also says he is bound by canon.

And canon says meson bays exist. Did MWM seriously want to retcon every bay armed S:9 and MT bay armed ship?

The ship building rules in T5 are overly complicated and contradictory, nor do they go into building BCS so systems are missing.

They don't exist in the charted space universe, at least not until an author who doesn't know the setting sees them in the book and decides to write them in...

HG80 had spinal meson weapons A&B available at TL11. So the Vilani 'could' manufacture meson guns. But they hadn't.

Honestly the mongoose 2022 progression from 50 ton/TL11 to 500 ton/TL13 seems backwards. It would seem that as technology increases size should decrease

Also what is really the difference between a battlefield meson accelerator and the 50ton bay. I mean they are largely the same size. Why are battlefield mesons not available until TL15, may as well stick a TL11 50 ton bay in your massive grav sled.

Are you sure?

I don't think melons grow on Vland.

I have pointed this out many times. the nature of the battlefield let alone space combat is completely changed.

Now every warship tasked with orbital support will carry as many meson bays at TL11 as they can power, worse from a battlefield perspective is that a 50t bay will fit in a 100t ship

Now show me the table for bay weapons in BCS ships...

you can't, but it was certainly discussed for if and when a BCS and above design sequence is ever released into the wilds...
