Heroes of Maganmund - Preview

Cool stuff... AND EVEN COOLER - you're using the the maps from the original gamebooks! Woohoo!

:)

Just a couple of questions:

1) Is the bonus gained to CS through the Pledge of Comradeship in addition to the usual bonus received when fighting as a group (main rules "Ganging Up" page 19)?

2) Just out of interest, what's the font that is used? When writing my own LW stuff I'd like to use it.

Looks great though, I'm really looking forward to this release. When it arrives I'll feel as though the new rules are 'complete' and can beging a campaign in real earnest.

1. Without actually having the book to hand (!), I believe it is.

2. I'll get Will to swing by and let you know!

Cheers Matt!

Hope this product line is a real success for you guys too, its great to see a rules lite game getting supported by a major RPG company.

Hello.

Magnakaï and Grand Master's Disciplines will be in Heroes of Magnamund but what of the others ?

Are the other characters limited to basic Disciplines or will they have Magnalike and Grand Master's like Disciplines too ?

Magnakai and Grandmaster disciplines will not be in Heroes of Magnamund. They will be in an as of yet unannounced future product. :)

I've been waiting since it was announced in the corebook :(

Awww... that was indeed announced in the corebook. It does make sense though, else the Kai would be too overpowered.

Well... not if you give Magnalike and Grandmaster's like Disciplines to the others.

Yeah... but that probably won't happen in Heroes of Magnamund.

I am guessing a 6th book in the series catering to higher level characters. The d20 book does give an idea of how to expand beyond the 10th level though.

I guess I'll have to slow down the rise in levels of my players.

I think many GMs will have to do this with you.

Gaining an extra discipline after every adventure is fine, its just the size of the adventures that is the critical issue. The published ones are a little short for such a reward in my opinion.

Personally, I start the PCs off with 3 disciplines and run a couple of shorter/background adventures with them to get them to initiate level. Then at that stage the campaign really gets going. YMMV.

I designed another system to play so the reward will be good old experience points with levels and a little evolution of CS and EP. But it doesn't change the problem, they cannot go beyond level 10.

Its a feature not a problem. All games have limits. You have a few choices:

1) Accept that, for now, there is no way to mechnically develop a PC beyond 'level 10' (as you put it)

2) Create some of your own Magnakai abilities. Which is a piece of piss considering that they will pretty much replicate the gamebooks so just go with what's in there and develop further as you see fit.

Well, one idea is to go to the old LWRPG rules for inspiration. And as already said when it comes to Kai characters the rules are already there, complete with Lorecircle bonuses and all.
