Played my first involved game tonight with a pal - got a coupld of small queries.

1 - torpedoes from a destroyer. Called single shot, but listed as port/starboard. Do you get a shot per side or just one shot from either?

2 - smoke - when does the smoke appear? Before you move or when the move ends?

A couple of observations - British J class destroyers are mean!
QE class warship attack resulted in rolling 24 dice! Whammo!

Took a long time to play three turns, but was good fun and I learnt a lot. Realised that you need tons of different counters...

We had a small wake to indicate 'flank speed' ships so we'd remember to reduce attack dice rolls.

Torpedo counters need something to indicate who fired them - especially if the ship has been sunk.

Tufts of smoke indicate damaged ships and fires.

I won in the end - a very fierce destroyer action resulted in three dead Italian destroyers along with a Trento cruiser and a British Southampton class and J class sinking. Swordfish got the Trento after a savage battering by the QE.

Good fun - looking forward to playing again soon.

Were you playing with the errattaed J class stats? I believe they are misprinted in the book.

When torps are listed as port/starboard, you get only one shot that may be fired from either side.

When they are listed as Port and Starboard separately, you may fire once from each side.

I lurve the J/k/n class. those torpedos are amazing!

however, they do only have an AD of 1, make sure you remember that.

counters for most things aren't really necessary. torpedos can be done with scraps of paper, i currently use a D10 for fires. some things don't need to be shown on the battlefield.

isn't the mistake on the JKN destroyers only in the AD of the secondary weapons? I have the 4 crossed out and a 1 over the top. I guess I picked this up somewhere.

The bit about torps is interesting - is this stated in the book anywhere? I'd like to see where I missed it!

Thanks for the help.

regards

yes. torpedos that can be used on only one side are listed as either Port torpedos or Starboard torpedos.
Torpedos mounted on the centreline that can fire in either direction are listed as Port/Starboard.

If you like torpedoes, try playing as the IJN and get a load of the Long-Lance Torps!

Range = 20, DD = 5 for destroyers, 3 for Cruisers so armed.

Very nasty.

Oh, and the other day my Yamato scored enough hits from one broadside to roll 36 DD in one attack. Just sick I know, but still very fun to roll an entire box of Chessex dice on one attack 8)

Does the smoke counter get placed at the start or end of the move?

The end - after you've moved.

The counter goes under the ship up to the half way mark - so will totally block fire from behind the beam to that ship (which makes smoke very good to lay if you are in stern chase).

Unless of course we've been mis-playing it....

That's what we reckoned.
Otherwise it's left behind.
JKust wanted to heaar what others were doing.

My Italian opponent used it to great effect to block his Zara from my destroyers - I used the radar on the Southampton to pop a few at him anyway!

Si

If you get problems, please delete/reverse the hotplug cpu patch. . Nigel has put out Suspend2 2.1.1 to resolve a couple of issues people were having,
