Just got my hands on a copy of Hackmaster basic today and have had a brief flick through. looks pretty cool. plan to run and intro session on sunday with the group, we already have 3 copies of HMB so should be easy on the passing of books and what not. i know theres atleast one other Hackmaster fan on these boards so let us know what you think of the new edition.

If it turns out to be pure awesome like the last edition ill most likely start turning it into an Hyborian age setting campaign.

Glad they are moving on with a new version but I am sticking with the old for now. Have a campaign underway and no compelling reason to switch over (which would entail starting over, since there's no effective guide to converting HM 4e characters to HMb).

Plus I like to use source material from AD&D, of which there is a shit-ton of, and it slots right in since they essentially use the same engine.

I haven't picked up HB yet - have you had a chance to read it some more? How's the quality and are the changes significant? I've been happy with the sneak peeks published in KODT.

The changes to the system are definitely significant - it's a whole new system. The only really interesting tidbit is that wounds are tracked separately, like one 5hp wound here, one 10hp wound there, and all heal at the same time, so if you've lost 20hp to several small wounds you'll recover faster than if it was one big 20hp hit. Otherwise there's nothing especially compelling about it for me.

I thought the quality of the book was somewhat lacking, especially the printing and layout... not sure if they were going for an indie feel or something but it looked cheap.
