Gyrostabilizers

Stabilisers can be added to any Bulky weapon, reducing its recoil and removing the Bulky trait

How much is the recoil reduced??

The 1st edition states by 1. Since they are the same tech level and cost I would assume it is the same. That said, it does need to be in the book. :)

None of the weapons in the beta test have a recoil rating any more. I think that the reduce recoil statement in the gyrostabilzer description is either an oversight and should be removed, or that recoil ratings are missing from the weapon stats. I am personal happy for the weapons not to have a recoil rating, which would then mean the gryostabilzer does exactly what it says (removes bulky trait from weapon).

Bulky weapons are the only ones with recoil according to page 75 so there is still a recoil trait, it is just for some weapons though.

Personally I don't like the term bulky. It doesn't seem right given the weapons that have this trait. I would not, having used one, class a shotgun as any more bulky than a rifle and yet the shotgun is bulky and the rifle isn't. A laser rifle, however, with it's backpack full of batteries should be bulky even though there is no recoil.

I don't see whey the change was made from Recoil/Heft to Bulky.

The old rules were fine. They didn't need changing just some additional explanation. There's nothing new here just some omitted detail.

I am beginning to believe some changes were made for the sake of change. Not because it made the game better, but just different. This is one of those I am having a hard time seeing how it improved the game.

Heft and Recoil were all over the place and were rarely being used in play. Bulky/Very Bulky is more specific and only kicks in on certain weapons. In theory, should get used more often.

I will say that if the rule was being ignored more than used, it makes sense to take it out and/or change it to be more useful. Thanks for sharing the thinking.

I think the rule now is a non-rule. I can see it being ineffective in most games.

It adds Cr500 to any bulky weapon as only the most cash-strapped characters won't use a gyrostabiliser on ranged weapons, especially on the PGMP/FGMP. I can't believe that something as trivial as gyrostabilisation is not just included in the price of the any high-tech bulky weapon espcially on Cr65,000 weapons upward.

This leaves the only weapon that is actually bulky is now a broadsword. The choice of melee weapons used to be based on your type of character and strength now boils down to "Do I have a 9 strength? Yes, use broadsword, No, us a cutlass".

Traveller, right from first edition, has always been a hard sci-fi system. I'm just not sure that it is going in the right for my group.

Are there any plans for including optional rules Give selection of core rules but also additional rules for those that enjoy a more "technical" game?
