GW forums closing down, Mongoose live forever!

Mongoose
Check this out, GW are closing down their own forums! All of them! Tis a dark day for GW fans who try to speak out about stuff, but long live mongoose!
I think it shows that Mongoose have proven you can be a successful games copmany with a dedicated fanbase without acting like a nazi superpower in the process.

The reason is very funny:

Games Workshop forums will be closing on Wednesday November 15. Over the last few years there has been an explosion in the number and variety of forums devoted to the Games Workshop Hobby. These range from the huge forums covering the whole Hobby to small, focussed boards dedicated to a single army. If you want to meet and chat with other hobbyists online, we recommend that you check out a variety of these forums to find one (or more!) that suits your needs. A huge selection can be found by using any of the big internet search engines. We recommend typing in the name of your favourite game (40k, WH etc), army (Eldar, Empire etc) or aspect of the hobby (GW gaming, GW painting etc) and apend 'forum' to the end.

Sounds to me like 'there are enough GW Forums, so we do not have to spend our own money (and time) on this crap'.

But I won't complain - since most 40k-forums aren't pure GW some members dedicated to GW's board will now come into contact with other tabletops, maybe even SST.

It's truly sign of incompetence that GW wasn't able to provide a good forum with an acceptable software to their users (and keep that board clean of flamewars and messy posts).

And somehow this reminds me on the happenings '45 inside the 'Bonker'. Dig in, beware of all critics, and at no cost admit the truth.
Hold on in believing in the own superiority even as the whole worlds falls apart outside.

Whereas here on the Mongoose forums, we take pride in our flame wars, the best in the galaxy!

We flame with niveau, that's the difference ;)
I haven't seen any GW Kiddies in this forums and I hope they will never appear.

It doesn't surprise me actually.

The last time I looked it was covered in complaints. No company in their right mind spends money out of the marketing budget to pay for a website full of reasons why not to buy their products.

Doesn't surprise me either - the software for that forum was not user friendly. I stopped going for that reason.

But I agree - long live the 'Goose! Mongoose that is...

dont talk about gw prices to me !!!!!!

i poped into get some paint and looked at the new eldar boxes,,, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! £20 for 5 normal sized figures !!!!!!!! then some unit boxes at £18 for 5-6 figs !!!!!!!!! so glad i gave them up a few years back !!!

Bloody mentality isnt it?

Gimme a GOOSE.
I will keep playing their old stuff and buying stuff off of ebay. I swear the only way to afford it as a normal, middle-class worker in Englands Rich, Upper class south is to work there.

Yep, 199€ (253.95$) for the new Eldar Army Deal, that's nuts - compare that to the Arachnid Invasion Force (120$).

GW's problem wasn't people complaining about prices, rules or anything else; their problem was an inability to accept criticism and work on improving things.

Compare and contrast GW to Mongoose or Battlefront; the last two companies have excellent forums, the rules guys answer questions, and when problems are brought to the attention of the companies, they attempt to resolve them.

The new saggie for example- people noticed it was to good for a skirmish, heck almost to good for a raid! And Mongoose fixed it with in a month or two. GW is about four years behind on FAQs, and tries to ignore the entire situation by arguing RAW is perfect.

It will be interesting seeing how GW does versus the younger companies in the next few years.

Only real problem I have with Mongoose is Starship Troopers... being based on the travesty that is the movie rather then the book. I just will not buy or support anything to due with the movie.

Slight correction: Specialist-games forums stay up. Got to be first time in GW's history when main games get kick in the teeth instead of specialist-games! Worth mentioning just for sake of that! (even if specialist-games, ie GW's best games, are dead games anyway)

Humm. LAMI is based on movie, cap trooppers/marauders are based on the CGI serie and as far as I know the exo-suits are, barring lack of flamers, pretty close describition of book MI. I hear book-purists find the exo-suits appealing choise specifically because they are so true to the book :D

Can have. Althought You won't be wanting to use the option, as it'll simply cripple the list against any opponent - peewees are simply too expensive to use them carelessly or in larger numbers.

Do they have multiple tactical nuclear bombs?

If you seriously wish yes. PL3 gives you several nukes(300 pts each) and firestorm missile launcher(handy missile launcher in itself) has ability to fire up a nuke.

Though how many nukes you can fit to the list depends of course on point value. In 2000 pts 3 nukes costs whopping 900 pts, ie almost half of it. It's not impossible to win with that(there's battle report on the SST forums where list with 3 nukes won. Though can't recall if it was exo-suit list though) but you are going to have to be extra carefull(oh and blow those plasma bugs before they get to shoot. One good hit from them could cripple your army in no time...Good thing nukes blow plasma bugs with no trouble. Unless you manage to roll something like 13 1's out of 15 d10 dice :D)
