Great Ideas Just Keep On Coming!

Ok, ready?

Dont come to any immediate conclusions, just let it mull over in your minds for a little while, ok?

Dragonquest (spi). Wizards dont want it, and its actually pretty A.

What do you think?

OR

Powers & Perils. I know its a bit 'out there', but, I liked it.

Oh, and who said they hated Tekumel?! What the hell?!

Whomever, they're due a visit from the Goddess of the Pale Bone, or, perhaps, the One Other ... or, if one is feeling really vengeful, both.

Let's see, MRQ Tekumel or Traveller Tekumel?

Decisions, decisions :D :D :D

Oh, I think the 'high ride' is certainly good enough for their edification.

No need to over indulge them!

True.

Obviously uncultured barbarians (Nluss, perhaps) - they would not appreciate the true honour of gaining the attentions of the Pariah Gods

Perhaps they could be reanimated and made useful as guardians for some of the underworld temples?

Waste not, want not

Which still leaves us with the question - RQ Tekumel or Traveller Tekumel (now that Strontium Dog evidently includes rules for Magic) :?

After a quick divinational sacrifice, the wishes of our Lord of the Blue Room are—'RuneQuest'.

'Traveller' lacks the, ahem, delicacy for depicting the subtler forms of barbarian elucidation.

(much snapping)

Yes. I suspect it would probably appeal to the Nluss, as well -- so RQ Tekumel it is!

Or possibly it should be RQ Empire of the Petal Throne.

I game designer, hmm? thinks I reckon if a complete set of Tekumel setting rules for RQ were to drop through Mongooses doors, they would seriously consider it for publication...

Yup, I prefer 'RQ - Empire of the Petal Throne' too. Get to it.

That would be me...

I enjoyed it at first way back but soon found it annoying and limiting so it joined Jorune in what I used to call my "Stink" pile. I ended up giving it away in the mid 80's.

Dragonquest though.... OH YES ! Excellent game. I bought that shortly after I got the AD&D Monster Manual in the 70's. I prefered it to AD&D but everyone else wanted to stick with TSR. I ran a few sessions of it and found it better to GM and write stuff for. On the basis of that I bought their UNIVERSE RPG. That worked until I picked up Traveller then that too was never looked at again.

Many memories

Yeah, you can still get a pdf of Universe somehwere online. Did you ever see the supplement? I think spi rpg stuff was sadly maligned. Dragonquest couldda bin a contendah! Apart from a few strange mechanic decisions, I always thought it was special. It played really well, too, obviously a much better engine than D&D at the time. Shows, as TSR buried it under a big pile of rocks never to be seen again!

I thought Jorune was a bit derivative of Tekumel, in some ways. But Tekumel? Stink pile?! Youre crazy man! But, I guess, some aspects of it look a little dated now, some of the races. I suppose, are a bit cheez. Great invention though, sadly, never got the system it deserved.

I can see the appeal of Tekumel - heck I even enjoyed it for a while... it just wasn't one I could continue with considering Greyhawk (Yumm) and Man Myth & Magic (slobber) and.... Dragonquest (licks lips) and others.... compared to them it didn't press my buttons and was just missing something.

Yep Jorune was very MA - a game I loathed !

SPI was THE Company for me - was so happy when it was grabbed by TSR thinking lots would come of it and so fed up 6 months later when I got a letter from Gary Gygax saying they were not going to do anything with it :(

DragonQuest?
Great idea.
But it may be hard to get the license out of Hasbro/Wizards (everything they have purchased they publish by themselves or lock it away so that nobody else can publish it).

Powers & Perils?
Why republish one of the biggest mistakes in roleplaying history. Only a few games are worth than this (Lords of Creation comes to mind).

Tekumel?
YES!
MRQ Tekumel would be great.
There is a fan conversion somewhere... for RQ3.

We just have to find where WotC buried Dragonquest.

Whats wrong with P&P man? Aint got the stomach for it? It was a cross between RQ and...something weird.... If you support Powers & Perils, I'll put a vote in for Kult!

Yes, it was an S Petersen version. I have it, its good. This means the hard work has pretty much been done, so Mongoose just have to publish!
