Any thoughts/rules on the effects of artificial grav at a distance - i.e. how rapidly does the artificial gravity 'disappear'.

There is a thread titled "How does Traveller handle artificial gravity on
ships" here on this forum, it contains some of the informations you are
looking for. :)

Real gravity decreases in strength via the inverse square rule as it always does (i.e. if you double the distance, the gravitational strength drops by a quarter).

IMO artificial gravity uses the same relationship, but it is a pseudo-force like centrifugal force - it doesn't exist outside of the object generating it (a rotating space station may generate 1g within its habitation ring, but it's not pulling in everything around it as if it's an object with a 1g gravitational field).

(Slaps forehead => hollow echo) Thanks rust - I'll look that up like I should have done in the first place! (my forum newbie shorts are showing..)

EDG, avoids probs with ships, how does that work with Grav vehicles? (no need for answer if you've done so in topic rust mentioned) Thanks!

Just to clear it up, it would drop to a quarter of the original strength, not drop by a quarter of the original strength.

yes, sorry was unclear there.

How's your orbital mechanics expertise?

It used to be better, but I know the basics, could look up the equations if suitably pressed, know about LaGrange points (all 5 of them) and can discuss 3 or 4 different kinds of transfer trajectory.

But if you want some numbers crunched it'd take me a while to refamiliarise myself with the equations.

No crunching - that's what puters' is fo - 'checking' (cause tha's wha people fo!)

Seriously, I might pester you to look over some things in the future if you are game..
