When I DM'd the players all knew that I WOULD use their tactics against them especially when they were really close to the edge of the rules. When I played I knew the same. So it was always either keep something extremely over powered from constant use or face it constantly. A number of house rules were formed that way as the players didn't want certain devastating techniques used against them.
