Gorgeous Minis

I just had my first look at some B5 minis, and I'm really impressed with how beautiful and detailed they look.

I'm not a miniatures gamer by any stretch, but the visual appeal of the minis is strong; it would be easy to get drawn into the game.

but beware....not all looks so fine...some Drakh and Armageddon ships..arggggghhhhh.... only a joke....
the iconic ships, for example, are very beautiful, thats right.
i mean with a fine paintjob they looks all good...(the most of them  )

The older ships also have issues with the moulds, so the casting quality is not always as prisitne as one woul hope... the new ships tend to be pretty good though; at least most of the time.

But yes, the B5 designs are so impressive and interesting; it helped sell the series and sure doesn´t hurt the game either.

And the good thing is: The game is as much fun as the ships are beautiful! :D

Yeah, just ask around and you'll see that there are many opinions on the quality of the ships. Some go together quite well, but they are not for the novice modeler. My best advice to a new player is to invest in a good modeling knife and a set of fine needle files (also a Dremel might be very helpful). Many of the ships will need areas filed down and in some cases, you might need some modeling putty or filler. I also suggest getting some clamps to hold parts together while the glue is drying.

It's all a labor of love though. Most folks here will be glad to give you advice on particular models, so just ask questions in advance to see what you'll be up against.

I would say the best all round fleet I have seen, is the Brakiri. Admitedly the avioki is a complete arse to put together, but is a fantastic looking ship, and all the others go together so well. I do with the Kabrokta and Corumi were that little bit smaller, but they look excelent. also on the whole the fleet had minimal flash, and apart from the aforementioned avioki, and one wing on the Corumai, they were all great... and... get this.... they ALL have big enough holes for the stems!!!

the newer ships from Armageddon book have a problem with their moulds as well - they dont have one!

Well, looking at the photographs in Armageddon, that might not be such a bad thing...

Just something I´ve experienced with the Nolo´Tar, one of the newest ships around: I have 8 of them, 6 were really good, but on two there was some bad flash on the edges. Nothing I couldn´t fix, but surprising when compared to the rest and when looking at the age of them.

I hope we don't sound too off putting, they are very nice minis. But as B5Temple said they are not for the novice modeler. It does help a bit if you have assembled metal models before, and have some idea about trouble shooting if you come across a problematic one. If you decide to collect shadows my best advice is "nice deep breaths" when assembling the scouts.

I'm also warming up to the miniatures rules. They sound like a healthy mix of options, combined with a fair balancing mechanism -- a formal rating by points and by mission effectiveness.
