Gods of Glorantha

Obviously, none of the Lunar cults like the Red Goddess or the Seven Mothers will be around in the Second Age, since they were founded in the Third.

Also, as the Godlearners established their Middle Sea Empire they found lots of different people worshipping gods that were extremely similar, but might have different names, slightly different myths and a few differences in their power. The Godlearners decided that these people were all "really" worshipping the same god, and went round telling people so.

In other words, the cults listed in something like Gods of Glorantha would be familiar to someone living at the end of the Second Age. Earlier on, there would be a lot more local variation - each tribe would worship its own local version of the gods.

Is the old Gods of Glorantha supplement still useful in the 2nd Age chronology?

Thanks!

The articles one can find on the Glorantha website will be very useful. I'd say Gods (or the RQ-II era reprint) will still be quite useful as well.

Yes and no. It's probably better for the overview of the pantheons over the specific magics of each cult.

The two best examples of religion in Glorantha are Cults of Prax and Cults of Terror, but they are very much set in time and place (3rd Age Prax and Dorastor).

GoG got a lot of mixed reactions when it was first released -- when you compare it to the first two 'Cults' book it falls short, and is very generic in how the gods are presented.

You have to delve into one of the Gloranthan controversies to really understand how GoG fits in (which very much applies to the criticism of HW/HQ being too scholarly) -- GoG has been labled a product of the God Learners, and is the result of their attemp to apply a unified theory to religion in Glorantha.

Since MRQ is in the time of the God Learners, it should reflect their view of the world, which would be applicable.
