[GK Games] News and Reviews

Ah, the fun of college life. Here we see a typical group of students enjoying time away from classes at Lancaster University located in the heart of the city of Baker on Cascadia (Cascadia 0705).

What did your character do in college? The Clement Sector Player's Guide can help you determine that and much more about your character's past. The Clement Sector Player's Guide will be available in PDF on May 15.

Here we see humans and uplifted gorillas playing Zero Ball. Zero Ball is a variation of American rules football played in a controlled low gravity chamber. It is the favorite sport on Monroe (Cascadia 0107) and is popular on several worlds in the Cascadia and Hub subsectors.

The Clement Sector Player's Guide includes several new career tracks including the Sports track. The Clement Sector Player's Guide will be available as a PDF on May 15.

Here we see the USS Shannon, a Trent-class destroyer, traveling with the USS Alfred Thayer Mahan which is a far newer Farragut-class destroyer. The Trent-class destroyer is the subject of the first installment in our newest series, the Historical Ships of Clement Sector, which will look back at older vessels in our setting's history.

Historical Ships of Clement Sector 1: Trent-class Destroyer will be available in PDF on June 12.

"Mr. Harmer, light up the drive. It’s time to ride fire!" Captain Jacinda Loughton, USS Caliban

Here we see the USS Caliban operating under thrust. USS Caliban was the second Trent-class destroyer and was commissioned in 2187. It served in Earth Sector for many years. After The Conduit was opened, USS Caliban served as the flagship for the fleet of smaller exploration vessels tasked by the United States Space Navy to explore Clement Sector.

Here we have a picture of USS Leary firing her portside weapons. USS Leary was the sixth Trent-class destroyer commissioned by the United States Space Navy in 2190. The vessel served in Earth Sector for several years before being brought over to Clement Sector as part of the 6th Space Fleet operating from Sophronius (Hub 0408).

In 2250, the vessel was sold to the independent colony of Franklin (Franklin 0506) where it served as part of the Franklin Space Defense Navy. It remains in the Franklin system as part of the Adams-Roberts Museum of Space Travel.

In this picture from 2330, we see USS Shannon approaching Sophronius (Hub 0405). The picture also shows the orbital city of Griffith which was destroyed by the terrorist group Sic Semper Tyrannis in 2332. USS Shannon is now used as a training vessel by the Boone Space Defense Force (Sequoyah 0305).

The story of USS Shannon is included along with full deckplans, a detailed description of the Trent-class destroyers and their history and more beautiful art provided by Bradley Warnes and Ian Stead. And, to top it off, writer Michael Johnson also provides an appendix detailing reaction drive missiles to be used in conjunction with The Anderson and Felix Guide to Naval Architecture.

What's with the huge dish in the front? Blocks all weapons from firing in the front arc? Does this ship use spin/thrust or is it equipped with artificial gravity? What's its tonnage?

Hi Annatar.

The Trent class is a destroyer class (1500dT) reaction drive vessel.

The "shield cap" provides several functions. Primary function is to store the not insignificant amount of reaction mass needed to power the fusion plasma reaction drive that propels the ship. It also provides a cosmic particle/radiation absorbing shield for the habitat array as there is no gravity drive to provide a means to deflect such cosmic particles. Finally it provides a shield for any incoming fire as the destroyer approaches an opponent.

The downside to this design, is that only the ship's sandcaster and missile turrets can fire around the shield cap. The ships main armament is broadside mounted.

Reaction drive ships are usually reliant on thrust and centrifugal spin for gravity generation.

For more information about reaction drive ships, please see Anderson and Felix Guide to Naval Architecture.

The issue is, I'm a little confused about how the books all nest together.

Following on from my post, I think it would be very helpful to prospective buyers like myself to have a single place where we can look at the many different titles you've published and which bundles they appear in. Sadly, at this time as I can't afford the One Bundle To Rule Them All.

I'm happy to help. As the forum limits the amount of URLs which can be posted in a single message, I'll state here that you can find all of our bundles at this link.

As you say above, there is the "One with Everything" bundle which has everything we've published for the Clement Sector setting (which, at the time of this post, is everything we've published at all). It is expensive but you do get everything and you do so at a nice discount (with some of the products coming free).

If you are just getting started with our setting, I highly recommend that you pick up the "Clement Sector Starter Pack" which you can find here.. This contains everything you need to get started in the setting (Clement Sector Core Rules, 21 Plots, The first Cascadia Adventure, Ships of Clement Sector 5: Traders and Scouts, Career Companion and The Player's Guide).

If you just want to central core rules of the setting, you can pick up the Clement Sector Central Core Bundle. This includes all of the core rules (the setting book, Anderson and Felix Guide to Naval Architecture, the Player's Guide and Career Companion).

We also have the yearly bundles (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014) that contain everything we published that year. These are helpful if you want to start at "the beginning" and follow our progress.

I feel that is also important to answer a common question here. People often ask why there is no "Quick Worlds" bundle and why they do not appear in any of the bundles. The answer to this is that the Quick Worlds are bundled into the Subsector Sourcebooks. (Quick Worlds 1-12 are in Cascadia, Quick Worlds 13-22 are in Franklin, 23-25 are in Hub). So if you purchase Subsector Sourcebook 1: Cascadia, you are getting the first 12 Quick Worlds plus eight more worlds.

Clement Sector has four central subsectors (Hub, Franklin, Cascadia and Sequoyah). Each has its own subsector book dedicated to a detailed description of the subsector. You can purchase them in the "GKG Core Subsectors Pack".

There are four subsectors (Dade, Dawn, Peel and Superior) on the edges of colonized space that we refer to as "The Colonies". These can be purchased as a bundle in PDF form through "The Colonies Bundle" or as PDF and print in "The Clement Sector Colonies PDF/print" bundle.

The Hub Federation is the only interstellar polity in Clement Sector. The military of the Hub Federation is detailed in two books by Michael Johnson and you can pick both of those up in "The Hub Federation Military Character Pack".

We have published several of our "21" supplements. You can purchase all of these together in "The 21s" bundle.

If you decide that you only want our "21 Plots" books, you can purchase those in the "126 Plots Bundle". If you determine that you only want the more general plots, you can purchase the "63 General Plots Bundle". If you'd rather just get out themed plot books, you can purchase the "63 Situational Plots Bundle".

We have published several full adventures for our setting as well. You can pick up all of them in "The GKG Adventure Pack".

If you'd rather stick to just our Cascadia subsector themed adventures, you can pick up "The Cascadia Adventures Bundle" which contains all of the PDFs or you can pick up "The Cascadia Adventures Print/PDF Pack" which also gets you the print version of the adventures.

Our pair of Dawn Adventures (written by George Ebersole) can also be purchased in "The Dawn Adventures" bundle. These are not yet in print versions.

And last but certainly not least is the Ships of Clement Sector series written by Michael Johnson. You can pick up all of these PDFs in the "GKG Starships Bundle".

If you prefer print, we have compiled two sets of these starships books into print versions. You can pick up the first three in the "SOCS1-3 Print/PDF Bundle" and the second three in the "SOCS4-6 Print/PDF Bundle".

Hope that helps!
