[GK Games] News and Reviews

Been thinking how to mix the Clement Sector with 2300AD. First I need to work out the quickest way to convert the starships from J Drives to stutter warps. I'm going to leave them without spin habitats and incorporate the magnetic clothing from Cthulhu Stars.

Kind of off topic but have GK Games ever thought about putting Clement Sector over on the Traveller Map?

I could be wrong but I have been under the impression that the Traveller Map only covers the OTU.

For the most part yes but they do have Non-OTU Sectors stuck in random places.

I'm just starting with the Clement Sector so I could be off on this but I'd argue that the Z drive is similar enough to a stutterwarp drive as to be left alone, it has a 2 parsec limit (similar to 2300's 7.7ly limit) and can travel 1 parsec in half the time. You could calculate SW efficiencies from MgT's 2300 and go from there but I'm not sure it would make a big enough difference. The bigger difference would be two part for me - SW ships in 2300 can fight at blistering speeds and maneuverability and 2300 has no anti grav.

I think changing these would put big dents into the cohesion of the Clement Sector, your call obviously but might be a lot of work redoing the ships and culture.

Just wanted to drop in a quick reminder that I will be appearing as a guest at LibertyCon in Chattanooga, TN this weekend. I'll be running three games set in our Clement Sector setting (one on Friday and two on Saturday). I will be in the Southern Room ( You can see the map at this link) for all three games.

Unfortunately, if you are not already registered, you will be unable to buy memberships as it sold out.

Game 1: "In Pursuit of Mr. James" will be on Friday evening at 7pm.

Game 2: "The Early Bird" will be Saturday afternoon at 2pm.

Game 3: "From Hell's Heart" will be Saturday evening at 9pm.

Okay,

I've got a question. If someone has the Clement Sector Setting book and the Mongoose Core rules and could afford to get one additional book, which Gypsy Knight Game book would be recommended? I'm leaning towards either the Anderson and Felix Naval book or the Clement Sector players guide. I am also talking print copies here not pdfs.

Thanks,

William

I would go with one of the Subsector books

My first question would be: Do you have any of the adventure supplements (Cascadia Adventures, Dawn Adventures, 21 Plots series) on PDF? If you do not, I'd recommend picking up one of the 21 Plots books. If you do, my recommendation would be Career Companion and then the Player's Guide.

After that, according to taste, I would recommend Anderson & Felix, the Player's Guide, or one of the Subsector Sourcebooks.

Here we have a Hub Federation Berlin-class colonial destroyer approaching a Moltke-class cruiser near one of the moons of the gas giant Zielicke in the Hub system (Hub 0405).

The Berlin-class is a 1200dT standard short hulled starship design. Designed primarily to provide colonial protection and security, the destroyer has crystaliron hull armor and an internal reinforced structure.

Here we have HFS Einbeck, a Berlin-class Colonial Destroyer in service with the Hub Federation, approaching MV Sampson, an independent Atlas-class freighter, in the Sigewif system (Hub 0505).

Oh yes... Definitely looking forward to this one... :)

The Berlin kinda looks like a larger Kiviat, doesn't it? Wider than the Farragut, that's for sure, and stern view hints at more small craft (at least three hangars from the looks of it). So what is the difference between a destroyer and a colonial destroyer?

It could be that the Berlin is simply a destroyer of colonies :) but I'd rather guess more focus on patrol, amphibious operations and independence, rather than hunting, escorting and destroying things? Perhaps lighter armament, but compensating with marines and greater endurance?

I'd say you are definitely on to something there.

As originally designed, the Berlin-class colonial destroyer’s primary task was to provide defense and security for German colonies including rapid deployment of a company of troops with supporting vehicles directly to a trouble spot.

Because the vessel is so easily recognized from this role, it has opened the Berlin-class up to parody from certain circles. One popular example is the "FGS Teutonisch" used by the cartoonish Kapitän Otto Von Spanke, one of the more popular adversaries facing the hero of Harbringer Productions' Superpirate! holovid series. That vessel is shown here.
