Gencon over, gimme Manta!

I don't think Mongoose are being unfair by pricing it in that bracket - they have asked about interest on here and what people aare willing to pay, and people are responding. I think it's sensible asking as the last thing they would want to do would be to be out of pocket by releasing something that's likely to have a high selling price without seeing if there is a potential market big enough to make it worth while :)

I can't afford to buy an Arachnarok spider from Games Workshop though I would really like one, and though I would pay that sort of price for a Manta, it doesn't look likely that a 28mm scale one would be doable at a price I can afford. It's a shame, but I'm not going to say 'I'll buy one!' when I know I can't - that'd be unfair to Mongoose!

I'm thinking if there was an epic scale Dredd mass combat game, I'd be all over Mantas for that... :) Even if the last time I played an epic scale miniatures game was about 20 years ago...

Hi Matthew,
In all seriousness I think that a kit around the size of a Baneblade should be around £60-75, though I know that a lot of people would be put off spending that amount for a model kit. I definitely want at least one myself and right now I am reworking Dredd Times so would be showcasing it and the new rules/models as they are released, along with the movie stuff and the new official costumes :)

If you need any help with playtesting, ideas or input please mail me my friend
Marc

Nice to hear from you Marc, it has been a very long time. Found out your GW store opened a week before I was born, flicking through old white dwarfs!!!

Anyway, yeah I agree, £60-£70. I know the Plastic GW baneblade is about the same price and plastic, but I can find a game of 40k much easier than JD.

Really exciting news though!!! Again, same offer as Marc made, perhaps not quite as 'sage', but the offer stands. :)

The size concerns me really - if it were a bit smaller (continuing the GW comparisons - maybe Rhino sized) and around the £30-40 price I'd gladly buy a couple. If there was a conversion kit so you you make them look like East-Meg or Brit-Cit varients I'd buy more (not sure if that would be canon).

If they are the big then I'm not likely to use them much - no matter how many juves you throw at it I imagine it will win out. Maybe I'd buy one for £50-60 . I'd possible just use it as scenery to improve the MC-1 feel of my battlefields...

How big is a Manta supposed to be?

This big...

law_manta_2.jpg

Thats a Lawmaster at point "18" there.

So it should be big, bigger than 12" really, but 12" is a reasonable compromise for playability.

A Manta needs to be big enough to fit a full cadre of judges and at least five Lawmasters, as well as a full tech crew controlling the craft and ready for forensic work if needed. A kit around 12-15" is a perfect scale and I really do hope that it retains the cool, sleek look that we have seen in the past.

The only problem with Mantas in games is that they become bullet/missile magnets, much like larger vehicles such as tanks and skimmers in 40K. That said I know that the rules will be fairly balanced and I am already working on some ideas for scenarios :)

I rather agree with DyN here. The problem with the Manta is not the price per se the fact that it is a big and consequently fairly expensive model that not all people are going want anyhow. I could be completely wrong but I'd not bet much money on it generating bigtime sales in the near future. I don't think people are going to get all that many even to play Block Wars.

My big problem with the Manta is that they're releasing it right at the same time as the ACTA: SF and a few Traveller books I'm waiting for, so will be bumped off my shopping list, so I'm just hoping that they're understanding and don't stop making it due to low sales... :(

Looks great! I'm keen to buy it even if I may not use it except for scenery, or for JD the RPG. The only thing I'm worried about are shipping costs as I live in Japan. This could make it prohibitive for me. The shipping on the gangs isn't so much as they are small packages.
Right now my next purchase will be either the robots or the manta (depends on shipping).
I will kick myself if I miss the opportunity to own one though..haha

Hmmm, think i'll get more excited when i see the final product...I'm not a fan of moveable parts on a mini, so i'll see how this turns out...I'm more excited about what else is in the works, I'm hoping gangsters and zombies are going to get a bit of love soon, but I'm going to guess Block Wars are going to be the big thing in the next update.

Pop quiz for all you Manta-watchers...

This monster will be about the size of a GW Baneblade, and is very heavily detailed. It will be cast in resin, and comes with a small stand that will allow it to 'float' just off the ground.

What would you think of paying for such a monster? We do not believe we will sell loads of these, which suggests the price would be towards the high end. We are not thinking Forge World pricing, but I think we would be approaching it.

Let us know your thoughts...

Last I saw was a shops preorder price of $75, is that right? Or even close?
I sure hope so. I shelled out over $100 for DP9's HHT Overlord for Heavy Gear.
I'd way rather have this, 2 of the Manta, then the Overlord.
And a maybe release date in June of 2012?

If I haven't already mentioned it, I want one. I reckon this will make an awesome addition to any Judge Dredd collector. Any news on a release date?

Shokker,
Go to "TheWarStore.com" and scroll down the left side to "RPG Games."
Click on "Mongoose."
Click on "Judge Dredd."
Scroll down the page to "Manta Tank."
It says it's blurb, and says it's available to pre-order.
The "Zombies" are a bit further down, price, pre-order, no date.
Only place I've seen any info like this.
Hope it's correct.
Cheers Mate,

I went back and it's now "Release Date To Be Announced."
The price is still $75 with their discount $59.99?
Hope it stays the same.
