GENCON 25 and Traveller

Banded Mongoose
The event list just dropped today for GENCON '25. So, there's a ~75% increase in Traveller game sessions over last year...to 13. I offered to do to for Lurking Fears, and even confirmed time slots with them, but the events don't show-up. Checking on that. Anyhow, here's the list:

I attended a Traveller game at a con once. We started with character creation, and by the time we were done with that the time for the session was over. Hopefully these come with pregens.

Talk about meta Traveller. Tell me you all died, too. ;)

Yes, it would be nice if Mongoose could organise some official games - eh @Matt - I'd offer you know!
I brought this up last year. The number of Traveller offerings is very small compared to Alien, Blade Runner, and Star Trek Adventures. Let's not even talk about [retching sound] Starfinder.

I offered to run two sessions through the Lurking Fears GM group. They run a majority of the Traveller sessions (and they're running a lot of the Star Trek Adventures RPG sessions, too). I Gave'em event descriptions, agreed on days and times, and then nothing when the event schedule came out. E-mailed their leader last Sunday to see what happened...crickets so far.

If the set-up is the same this year, you'll want to follow the map for the vendor hall to locate Studio 2. The Traveller items were _not_ next to the aisle and were separated from the aisle by a 1/2 height bookshelf (and bodies milling about behind it). You can get to the Mongoose items but they're at the back end of the vendor booth.

I'd add that there's no way anyone not familiar with the Studio 2 relationship would know to look for Traveller products in their booth, and the set-up last year made it easy to miss. Mongoose has no "booth" listing and there was no advert telling in the convention catalog (yes, that costs money) telling new or potential customers where to look. So, someone who's heard about Traveller and (maybe) that it's published by Mongoose but is unaware of the Studio 2 relationship is facing long odds in the huge and packed vendor hall.

Here are the GENCON offerings for SF RPGs without digging into FATE, GURPS, and Savage Worlds listings to see which events are SF oriented.

All Traveller GENCON events sold out within the first 2.5 hours following registration opening up. In reality, they probably sold out faster. Alien, Star Trek Adventures, and Blade Runner had similar performance--selling out rapidly--to include two large games of 40+ players (one each for STA and Alien).
