Game Lords Supplements for CT

rust

Mongoose
Far Future Enterprises has made all the old Game Lords supplements for
Classic Traveller (Desert Environment, Undersea Environment ...) avai-
lable as PDFs on Drive Thru RPG.

While this material is somewhat dated, much of it could still be very use-
ful for Mongoose Traveller, too, and the PDFs are not expensive.

I'm wondering if it really would be useful. In the 30-odd years since they've been published, wouldn't most gamers already have more useful (and modern/topical) information available about such topics?

I have just downloaded the Undersea Environment supplement. True,
the rules chapter and especially the equipment chapter contain nothing
new for someone who has, for example, Blue Planet or Transhuman
Space - Under Pressure. However, the chapter on Special Encounters
and Events has some ideas that make the PDF worth the just 4,- USD
I had to pay for it.

Well, and adventures like Drenslaar Quest are still quite playable ad-
ventures, or at least a nice inspiration for one's own adventures, so I
think that there could be a good reason to buy them.

I think "the internet" is a big leveller here; if you want to know some details about an environment you can now do a little research, ask about on places like this and get quite a lot of information in a very short time.

I suspect these would be useful for some people, as a reference, but I can't see myself buying them, to be honest.

Yes, I agree. If I would not work on a water world setting right now, I
would not have bought Undersea Environment to see how Andrew Keith
handled that subject, and if I would not be a fan of the Keith brothers,
I would not download Drenslaar Quest to see how William Keith wrote
an adventure for such an environment - in the end, it is just curiosity
and the hope for some good "Keith ideas" that made me spend a little
money.

The CD-Rom of the Gamelords and FASA Books is chock full of various deckplans that are well done and extremely usefull. I recommend getting it instead.

Yeah, AND the whole Skyraiders trilogy, Ordeal by Escharr, Rescue on Galatea, Uragyad'n of the Seven Pillars....coolness ! Really good solid adventures and campaigns. The good stuff is seldom out of date, just out of print. It isn't just the environment books, by a long shot -which also included adventures, too, I may add. Check out the far future site for details........

I'll wait to see how well the scans are. The MT CD-ROM had some missed pages and some very poorly scanned pages. I beleive the CT CD-ROM suffered also, but slightly less.

The Cd-Rom I am told will start shipping on May 18th. i have already ordered mine. To be Honest, I have all but the Twilight 2000 Cd's. I use them for TNE and MGT freely. Given the price of buying the pdf's or the books indiviually, I would say buy the cd's instead.
