Your far too kind Ubersnug
If there is a difference then I am certain the only thing that would make that difference, is practice & time & to prove that I will include a pic of my first Dargan, painted about 5-6 years ago, along with the guide.
Kickaha said:Absolutely.
After all, my Dark Star conversion would never have existed without your initial post.
Seems only fair.
Kickaha said:And on the same subject I am painting my first true Dilgar ship at the moment and finally managed to tie down the mottling effect as shown in the Mongoose fleet pics. When it finally sunk in, was a really obvious technique and easy to do as well - doh. Thats probably next weeks post and I can do a guide for this as well if people are interested.

How did you paint the Battlestar? It's seriously the best painted one I've ever seen.

Amazing! The difference is just night and day there.Kickaha said:And to strengthen my point on "time & practice" to Ubersnug couple of days ago decided to dig out my first painted Dargan, as well a useful reality check for me,

Just fantastic! Did you crush your brushes bristles into the model to get that effect?
Amazing! The difference is just night and day there.
My problem is that after I learned how to effectively use dry brushing, I can't get away from it or try anything else which may look better. I base coat, add base colours, wash with ink, dry brush then very mild highlight dry brushing.
They way you highlight all the individual areas on the Dargans and the battlestar is a technique I would love to master but I just can't seem to 'Get it'. Dry brushing gives you a dirtier version of your approach and I've just stuck to it. But, I would love to be able to paint with such a clean result.
What Ill do is ill grab some pics of the ships I've managed to paint so far (so far its ships from my EA 3rd Age fleet) and Ill post them up for you to see and you will get what I mean.
Kickaha said:Nice looking crusade fleet Ubersnug & impressive number of ships,
Never thought that anyone would have more Chronus' than me but you pip me by one, (although I now have two additional Eclipse's   )
[Guess you will beat me hands down if your fleet has since doubled in size   ]
You even managed to tie with me on Marathons probably my favorite EA mini.
Very nice detail on your painted ships and your flleet will look great on the table when completed.
Would be good to some close ups of the ships
Been a while since I painted a straightforward EA ship but I am about to paint of a "Lady Nemisis" from LC's novel and although I probably should go for dry brushing I am going to see what I can come up with without drybrushing.
ubersnug said:Speaking of Marathon's, is it just me or they really unlucky ships to use? Within our group of 4 players, every time the Marathon is used it gets blasted away in about the second or third turn without even making any real impact on the game. Omega's on the other hand seem to live up to their reputations....
