Nice idea Da Boss, could add also in the specifics for the Deathwalker which now needs a repaint anyway. (since I painted it around a year ago & needs better blending for the black & better Dilgar camo for the engines,so kind of falls into both camps).

Still amazed/ashamed it too me so long to suss out the Dilgar camo technique & was so obvious really, has kept me from painting my fleet till now.

hmm ...............200 + now becoming 202 + pages but then an Epic war & an Epic Novel, (thanks again LC), needs an Epic pdf

All these well painted ships are putting me off, it'd take me years to get that good

(And how much older will you be in years time if you don't start painting them  )

Maybe I should start on my Narn, Centauri and EA fleets so that I get better by the time I do Minbo and ISA.

Damn Ub...now I'll have to get those bases from Brigade. They are sweet looking even unpainted.

Some very nice ships Talonspiritcat.

Impressive number of BSG ships and good to see your results from many sources.

Hmm..need to check out Armoury Toys.

Think I've seen that ball shaped ship somewhere before. "Now where did I put my pointy stick"

Just hope the Omega is indeed fleet action scale or that is one seriously huge mini. Nice construction and paint job.

These ships are very very good Ubersnug. Probably the finest standard of dry brushing I have ever seen on this forum. Ok I can see a little bit of what you mean at extreme ! magnification you are picking up the surface structure / scratches of the metal mini. But you are being a touch over critical, in my opinion. Love the hatches on the Avenger in particluar. If you wanted to tone it down , (and in all honesty I don't think you need to attempt this at all), a very very thin black wash applied overall in several coats would probably tone it down a little or even a more concentrated wash painted only in the centre of the panels would work as well. I have found that every fleet suits a particular painting style and for EA dry brushing is probably the best & sanest method. EA metal armour plates should look just like you have shown them. I would probably spend ages trying to recreate the effect by "painting" that you have achieved by dry brushing. Having said that I made a concious decision to move beyond drybrushing and I believe blending is the ultimate method, one which I am still learning but I am more than happy to pass on what I have learned so far.

Ubersnug: Those EA ships are awesome! I really like the subtle shading you have achieved, which emphasises the detail while still preserving the basic colour scheme.

The only way I can see to improve those ships now is not by painting. What you could try now is adding pieces of plastic or metal rod to model the various antennae which Earth ships have, especially the Omega. Here are my Omega and Hyperion, nowhere near as well painted as your models but at least you can see what I mean by the antennae.

If you do want to improve the paint scheme even further, and have the patience for it, you could try painting small blocks of lighter and darker grey to mimic the brickwork finish which you'll see on close-ups of most ships in "Babylon 5". Other than that, you've got Earth ships mastered - now let's see what you can do with another fleet's ships. :)

I second Adrain H's point on the antennae, really enhances the look of EA ships and I too always add arials to Omegas, Novas & Hyps in particular and even the smaller Ea ships look better with some pins. If you want to be really crazy add on 4 pins around the launch bay on the, Omega & Nova. I use cut down staples and paint a blob of yellow on the end. On another of Adrian H's suggestions I am about to start painting a special Nova soon and I am still undecided about the best way to go. Was originally going for a blended attempt but after the success, (as far as I am concerned anyway), of the Omelos stipple technique made me wonder if that was worth a go for the Nova. Point being that it may be an "easy & fast method to recreate the panelling look that Adrian H suggested. Certainly worth an experiment.

The Nova does not really need mottling like the Omelos. It's a basic overall grey with a lot of recessed detail. I went quick and dirty and just gave it some ink to fill in the details, and probably overdid it - exhibit A :D
The "lights" in the fighter bay, on the other hand, turned out nicely. I just painted the inside basic red, then put two white dots on the ends as a base for the next bit, then painted over the dots with bright orange.

What EA ships do need is detailed markings, which I add by printing my own decals. Present on that Nova are the name and EA logo, barely visible under the guns, plus the bow letter on a yellow and black square. (Why the Schwarzkopf has a "J" there I don't know, but several pictures I found on the internet confirmed it, so there it is. :)) The decals show up better on the Omega and Hyperion. Even a pair of Olympuses got logos.

Beyond that, you could try your luck at the "brickwork" finish - beyond both my skill and patience at the moment, unfortunately.

I saw little point in posting the full fleets
New (12) and old Raiders (12) and Basestars (3 of each) (from Studio Bergstrom)
1 Resurection Ship from Armoury Toys

Bergstrom's Columbia (2), Acropolis (2), and 1 Pegasus-class Battlestars
Bergstrom Viper (12 MK1 and 12 MKIIs)
Armoury Raptor (6)
Armoury Toys - Scorpion (4) and Scarabs (4) which I use as my Apollo missile frigates and Artemis escorts

I do like http://armouryhobbies.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=150_153...and Bergstrom

Yeah, it's a FA scale Omega.

I honestly don't know how to respond  But thanks for all the positive comments. :D

I always considered my painting to be sloppy and rushed. I've certainly never had it lavished with so much praise before.

The main problem I have with my painting is that I can never get a clean smooth look and you can always see the strokes of the brush on the models. It's why I tend to stick to dry brushing as it easily hides this problem...

I have considered adding wee details to my models, like antenne and what have you. All I have to use are pins however.

@Adrian:

Well, once I've finished with my EA fleet I then have Centauri, Narn, Minbari, Vree, Brakri, Psi-Corps, Drakh, Pak'Ma'Ra, Vorlons and Shadows left to paint... Ill probably still be at this when ACTA V5 comes out

Kickaha, I would be more than interested in reading about your blending methods.

I agree.. Drybrushing works wonders on Early Years ships. Even the Omega looks good. It makes them look rugged and worn. Although blending would probably be more appropriate for newer ships like Warlocks and Marathons since you could give them a bright and clean finish with it. Just like ships that have just rolled out of the construction line.
