Freespace Conversion??

Hello,

I found Freespace 2 last night and installed it on my PC. The space battles wre excellent, much B5 like.

My questions is if someone has already done a conversion for the ships and where I could get thme.

Although, the Babylon Project is actually based on the released Freespace 2 sourcecode so doesn't require you to actually own Freespace 2. However, it is very similar in play style so if you like one and like B5 as well, then you'll love the total conversion.

hey..you have the same ideas like me....NICE.
i find ACTA is an excellent base for some Freespace Game Rules. Beams,Fighters,Interceptors,Shields,Carriers...all what you need.
only models left... but you can use counters for the start.
i had made some counters for the Shivans (Sathanas,Lucifer,Ravana Moloch,Cain etc.) in the past but deleted them....worry. :roll:
 
na sometimes they dont download cause of the server, ill see if i still have em on disc for ya. if not keep trying they work in the end, just make sure you change the path to the exe file once you upgrade to 3a

i like especially the shivan warships....
 
Here is my first try on terran and vasudan ships from Freespace 1. The Shivans are still in the works as they are a bit more difficult to balance. By know I haven't got any reliable tech data for FS 2 ships, especially shields and weapons.

Dude, just get VPView and extract the ships.tbl and weapons.tbl, that'll give you hard numbers on all the hull strengths and everything of that nature that you'll need to do some conversions. I did some conversions for Babylon 5 Wars which you can find here: http://knossos.firenebula.com . Not sure if they'd help you convert over or not, probably not I imagine. I did up basically all the SCSes but I've only played them once or twice so not sure how fun they are. Not trying to pimp B5Wars or anything like that, just thought it might help you a bit. Hardest part would be representing the fighters i think since FS2 is a dogfight game, not a fleet combat game.

But yeah, grab the Ships.tbl and it'll tell you everything. Like Fenris hull strength in FS2 is 10,000. Leviathan is like 25,000 or somesuch. And damn, I wish someone would scratch build the FS2 ships, that'd be so awesome.[/url]
 
No worries man, looks like this board is prone to the multiple post bug as well. I'm surprised that ACTA's doesnt have more sub boards on these forums. Seems to be enough traffic judging by the number of posts on this day.

ok. for the start it is very usefull to use the original Freespace.
not so a lot of ships like FS2.
i understand this.
to the scratchbuild theme....it is really difficult to build this ships...the terran ships are not so...but the shivans and vasudans...a hell of work. i know it. i have tried it. :roll:

The FS2 ships are a bit difficult because of their greatly improved weapons suite.

I would definitly buy FS Ship models :)
 
has anyone played the babylon project? its quite hard to even shoot down starfuries, but when i played the EM war demo i died about 10 seconds after the nials and sharlins turned up :D
 
The Babylon Project is tricky as the fighters are actually somewhat smaller than the normal FS2 ones (and tend to be more erratic in their maneuvers). Also the fact that they dont have big ass shield arrays that extend the target size even further make it harder to hit the little goits :P

I just found it a shame that they didnt make all the Minbari ships use the 'stealth systems' the shivans have in the first few missions of FS (whereby you cant lock onto them properly, I always felt that would have been PERFECT for the Minbari).

The Raider campaign in the game is hard, the EM war one is just pure EVIL. But very satisfying to complete :D

(as noted though I will warn before you donwload it, even if your a Freespace vetaran who can take on fleets on your own in the main FS2 campaign, TBP will give you a damn good fight!)
