First Game Experience - few questions

After my first game i think i was playing a few things wrong,

1, Seeking so auto hit, but because you do not roll for shield penetration i assume they cause hull damage which i think is now wrong where does the damage go?

2. If you roll a 5 and a 6 but have multi hit you get 2 hit on shield and 2 hull chart?

3. Klingon Front boosted shield are the F arc, if the above roll hits this ship is there on one hit from the Rolled 5 (half the multi hit) or just one AD if the roll was two 5's

4. how many time can the tractor beem use to defend against done, is it once per beem or do you get to reroll you if you have 2 beems??

5. Considering that i was playing that drone bypassed shield i found them them very over powered as 1 AD can result in 6 hits, how has everyone else found the drones?

1. Take damage off Shields first and when they are all gone, roll for Hull hits.

2. If you have Multihit 2, yes.

3. On the above roll, 1 shield goes down (Multihit 2 halved). If both dice rolled 5, the shields lose 2 point (Multihit 2 x2, then halved.).

4. Once per turn per beam. You can use two on one drone if you wish!

Thanks that helps a lot,

One last question is

When you suffer a crippled ship you can one fire one weapon When "attacking" but what about defensively ie against drones?

The situation i had last night was the Fed CA shot its trops at me in its turn as it could one fire one weapon system when "attacking" but used all it phasers for its defence is that right or should the wording be different in the book?

1: Seeking weapons autohit, but do not penetrate shields unless shields run out.

2: Yes.

3: Treat it as normal. If the dice roll was 5 , 6 for two disruptors (multihit 2) the it would be one shield damage and 2 rolls on the hull table. This means if an overloaded photon (multihit 8) gets a 6 to hit you get 8 rolls on the hull table.

4: Each beam may only per used once per turn for any reason. As written it seems you can keep rolling crew quality checks to tractor a drone or suicide shuttle until you run out of tractor beams.

5: Massed drone fire is the quickest way to take down shields, particularly against opponents without ADDs or a lot of phasers. However the brutality of this can be mitigated by a couple of ships in your fleet choosing the Intensify Defensive Fire special rule and shooting down drones aimed at other ships. The best use of drones is to initially pick off escorts or ships on the edge of the enemy fleet while keeping the range above 30. Doing this with Klingons or Kzintis against Federation or Romulans means you can pick off a couple of lighter units early in the game and skew the firepower ratios for when you close. You've still got plenty of disruptors for when you close.

You can also do an Orion massed drone fleet, who should always stay between 26-36 inches away from the enemy and just throw drones every turn. Using the all power to engines special order makes this possible, but will lead to some pretty boring games as the logical thing is for your opponent to do the same and try and pin you against a table edge.

Once a proper firing pass has been done and there are some enemy ships with shields down, or critical hits that mean they've dropped out of formation, then drones are great for picking off those ships while your fleet maneuvers to chase the enemy down.

Interesting comment on the 'one weapon' comment - whether though crippled or 'power drain'. I've always assumed that if it's on the weapon chart - ie, not a trait - then it's a weapon and would be effected by this. So, as i play, the Fed would not have been able to fire his Trops AND use phasers. Also, remember there's a 50% chance of traits going down (this does tend to favour ships with ADD systems, as there traits, not weapons - but you can lose them during play (if you roll 1 like i do), so it kind of balances)

Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

That is correct. Weapon fire is weapon fire, whether it is defensive or offensive.
