first battle

Scott Spicer

Mongoose
Hello my name is Scott Spicer and I have been playing navy games for some time. The one I mostly played has been seakreeg. I just picked up the VaS and I do enjoy the simple rules and ease of play of the game, but I ran into a little problem.
I and a friend played a 2 point war consisting of the British ships Rodney and Nelson vs. the IJN Yamoto and two Nagato class Battleships. According to the rules that is and even battle. Well (and for give my southern slang) IT AINT!!!! Jap ships basically ripped me a new one in short order. We replayed the battle with out the Yamoto and it was a more even battle although the brits lost the japs were not happy going home.
I do believe that the writers of the game have underestimated The Nagato and it should be a war level Ship. It is currently rated at battle. Play that set up and see for your self and let me know what you think

Most of the IJN ships are better than any other ship at their level, except maybe the Russians who have an equally unbalanced fleet list. THere has been plenty of discussion on this and plenty of arguments...

I was reading this and was a little dismayed, until it dawned on me: I play Russians. My only opponent so far plays IJN. We beat each other senseless on my first game, and I screwed up a lot of things vs. his experienced fleet. I really need to schedule a game with someone else...

In general, I've found the British fleet are underperformers so far...played against French & German, and Japanese forces.

Try the game using more ships. I think you will find it balances out much better... Also, you may be correct in that the Nagato is a very good unit
