But I digress, the rules are vague at times but seriously, show me a wargame with no vague areas in the rulebook. Anyone? Didn't think so. It's the one reason I do at times find Matt's standard 'play the rules as written' asnwer a little irksome, a modacum of common sense does require application in some situations and I would suggest that this is definitely one of them.
The 'keep half your ships in hyerpspace' rule predates the 'fighters are ships' rule and I personally think this implies that fighters were never meant to be considered in this situation.
