Favourite Fleet composition at 5pt Raid

I would say
one "young" shadow ship and
one scout with it.

(but that's only 2 ships :( )

for minbaris :

one Ashinta
2 Torotha
one Shantavi
one Tigara or Leshath

Narn,

G'quan (i know, but i still like to have one in a Narn fleet, it just feels right!)
Var'Nic
2 Ka'Toc
Thentus
Sho'Kar

i may replace the G'Quan with two Var'Nic in future.

Minbos

I'm a big fan of

3x Ashinata
1x Tinashi

IMO these are still the best ships the minbos have besides the Sharlin (War level ships IMO not really belonging in 5 point raid).

Vorlons

Well, things have changed. I used to be a fan of 2x destroyer, 1x transport. Haven't had the chance to play them at 2e yet, but I'd likely go with...

1x destroyer, 6x transport or 10x transport (not that I have that many transport models).

The light cruiser is somewhat more appealing now thanks to its range hike, but I'm not a huge fan of 3 ship fleets. Again, might be worth trying.

OK, I'll give it a shot:

Earth Alliance Early Years
Hermes
Hermes
Olympus
Olympus
Oracle
Sagittarius
Sagittarius
Avenger
Nova

Dilgar:
3 x omelos
2 x jashakar VIs
1 x garasoch
1 x ochlavita KI

Earth:
Third Age:
2 x novas
1 x avenger
2 x olympus
1 x oracle
1 x artemis

Here's the list I used in in my 5 FAP Raid-level match at the recent San Diego Tournament:

Both my oponnent and I were playing Crusade Era EA.

My list:

4 Hermes Transports (Squadron) - with Thunderbolts
4 Myrmidons LCVs (Squadron)
4 Chronos Frigates
1 Delphi Scout - With a Thunderbolt

His list:

Apollo Strike Cruiser
2 Chronos Frigates
1 Marathon Advanced Cruiser

There seems to be quite a bunch of Early EA fleets, but very few are fielding the ships that I admire the most: The Tethys and the Oracle. The Tethys is 2 ships per patrol point?!? That is really cool for any fleet. Now you add in the slow loading missiles (or as a buddy prefers, that beam variant)... I could easily see a fleet with 4 selections of those little guys: that's 8 initiative sinks! Meanwhile, if I am going to field 2 Sagittarius ships (another amazing skirmish level ship) as well, I'd want at least one Oracle to get those re-rolls! All those missiles and initiative sinks could keep you out maneuvering your opponent all day long. ;) But I do admit, all this is theory, and perhaps I'm overlooking the real strengths of the early era.

Meanwhile, my Minbari fleet that I use the most is:

3 Teshlans
1 Tinashi/Shavanti/Veshatan

That many Precise, Double (or Triple) Beam attacks will squash a ship or 2 most turns and leave very little left by the time I need the port or starboard mini-beams.

Drakh

Ma'cu carrier with 4 light raiders
3 fast destroyers

Ma'cu dies pretty quick but usually you can overwhelm there forces pretty quickly with this.

Vorlons:
2 destroyers
1 transport
6 fighters

(seems like you would loose to int sink, but actually works rather nicely)

On the Early EA - Tethys has been just short of banned around here as too cheesy due to the double up they got (the beam one didn't lose any AD going to second ed). So we tend not to use it, especially in any numbers (why stop at 4 choices....go for the gusto, take nothing but!)

Oracle for the re-rolls a lot of us have found we want two scouts or none if we're counting on getting re-roll (unless Vree). A single scout just seems to breed disappointment.

Psi Corp -

Hunter (ugly child but gotta love the beam, though I could borrow a marathon for the same points....hmmm)
Mothership
Fighter Carrier
2x Shadowcloak escort

Borrow (and maybe blue)

2x Olypmus

I'm in no way convinced it works but it's all the models I like or want to field. I know I can find a way to make it work even if it feels fighter light.

Personally I ditch scouts in the early EA for combat effective warships, my results with scouting having been on the poor side of positive.

I think that a lot of people have preferences for certain ships based on experience, myself I have never had much luck with Chronos's but much better luck with Olympus Gunships & Artemii hence why they are a mainstay of my EA selections.

Tethys are just so much bait althoug it would be interesting to see what happened with a tethys only fleet  1 quarter missiles the rest beams, in squadrons

I don't think Tethys are that bad - they give away full Patrol PL Victory Points and I don't think I've seen a game where the owning player is far more cautious about losing them than his opponent is about the damage they can do.

It depends on the race I am using, but for Narn it would be as follows:

1 x G'Quan (2.0 Pts)
1 x T'Rann (1.0 Pt)
3 x Ka'Tan (1.5 Pts)
2 x Sho'Kos (0.5 Pts)

It also depends on who I am playing as well, if I know what they like to use (e.g. Minbari) then I will try and tailor the fleet accordingly by adding Scouts, etc.

I'm becoming a believer in nothing but demos lists

Centauri
10x Demos

first turn something dies from 60 SAP, Precise missiles.

Problem for a lot of folks Triggy is that if I lose all my ships but I win on VP I don't feel like a won anything. And frankly in campaign I haven't, as they don't cost twice the RR to my knowledge.

But that's for another thread I think....
