Exploration Game Structures

Mongoose
The core rules mention having an exploration flavoured campaign. However that requires some support, similar to the support given for trade flavoured campaigns.

Classic Traveller Book 6 : Scouts had pretty much everything needed including detailed system generation and scan/survey rules.

Is there a plan to come out with separate support books for the different campaign types?

Mongoose has a Book 3: Scout, I think.

Just checked and the current MgT has Book 3: Scout. Mongoose has really been keeping to their commitment to be true to the "old school" Traveller and I would be very surprised if 2E doesn't also end up with a Scout book. Also an exploration game sounds really cool. I might have to think about running something like that.

I managed to get a couple of exploration sessions in. Part 3 has been pending for a while due to illness but its still on the cards.

Book 3: Scout is still a wealth of information and game material for running exploration including inspiration if you were to run a lab ship for something other than scouts. The ships aren't hard to convert to HG 2e. You can even tinker the Mainworld Cartographic System into 2e world generation to expand system generation. Definitely worth it.

I think it was the original CT Aslan alien module had some space exploration info in it that was very useful and could be used for detection of stars/gas giants.

Both Mongoose Scouts and MegaTraveller World Builder's Handbook describe detection of initial system structures from observations in nearby neighboring star systems. This made me realize the value of the 100 ton scout vessels natural J2 ability to explore systems one parsec away detected to have no gas giant. They could make a jump 1 in, look for an alternate hydrogen source and have a second jump 1 out if they find none. That would also make an interesting exploration game with certain systems not colonized for lack of fuel.

That's a really good point. Carry fuel for 2 jumps allows any ship to back out from the first destination. I always thought this would be important for battle fleets that may have to jump in and then retreat.
