Exploding ships :- Vorlons and Shadows

No. 1 Bear

Mongoose
This came up in a game the other day. And wondered whether it still had effect locotus didnt think it did as it wasnt so in the last ed, however the new rules make no objection for vorlons and shadows under the newer rules of exploding.

So do they explode? As it does seem a bit stupid for an organic ship to suddenly blow up...

This could have an impact on the benny hill, corina 6 thingy for which we were having a practice game.

Thanks if anyone can enlighten us.

I'm not sure on this but in one game where my shadow young got literally hammered to death and its hull damage went into the figures for a VERY big explosion we agreed that it withered away. Just keeps things cannon so to speak, they never did explode in the series.

Don't quote me though lol, I'm still learning lol

As we all are.

Well it makes sense for them to wither but what were looking for, with the corina 6 tournament is the rule not peoples gut feeling for what it should be ;) I can do that for myself quite comfortably (and incidentally why should vorlons explode if shadows dont SQ? Theres nothing in the rules in ANY editon to suggest that. Or on screen for that matter, a few times we've seen vorlons get blown appart and ONE exploded (though that was down to the Occupant not the ship...).

And theres times we see bits blown off shadow ships or them get glown into chunks as well as times we see them wither.

Basically organic ships SHOULD wither rather than explode but theres nothing in the rules we could find under 2nd ed to suggest that this is actually the case....

Maybe it's because Vorlons still have a reactor-based power source of some kind... The rear end of a Vorlon heavy cruiser and transport kinda suggested it.

if it dosn't say they Don't blow up, then they do. pretty simple. it may not be cannon, but dems the breaks.

they may have specified that they didn't blow up in 1st edition but 2nd edition aint 1st edition. maybe they'll switch it again in 3rd edtion :)

Have to agree with LOKAI here, not in keeping with the series, but in keeping with the current rules....... There's always house rules...

It doesn't say that shadows wither and die in 2nd Ed? I never even checked! I just assumed they did...

I always thought Vorlons exploded, what with their inferior tech

In 2e they explode like everyone else.

Well that suddenly makes me change tactics!!!

So far I've been keeping my shadow ships fairly tightly packed to literally take down ships in a single turn. Now I have to think about how much damage could be inflicted if one blows!!

Thanks everyone :)
