Excel Ship Designer v2025.06.21

Jump Drive Parsecs is greyed out on the fuel page when I select hop 1 on the drives page, and I get no fuel tonnage. Ditto skip 1, hyperdrive, space folding drive, and warp drive.
Thanks.
I knew I'd miss something. The other systems use the power plant only. I just need to get it to recognize hop and skip.

NEW VERSION 2024.09.30a

Implemented the corrections from Terry Mixon that I keep forgetting about. Thanks Terry.
Fuel is ungreyed for all versions of Jump Drives. Thanks again Terry for pointing that out.
Broke out individual munitions for ammo storage in the Cargo Tab. Let me know if there is a need for another category.

That part is fixed, thanks. But while the number of parsecs isn't greyed out, it still adds no tonnage for fuel for the other drives.

Also, with hop, skip, or other, maybe instead of parsecs (which is still capped in the single digits, that should be relabeled. Not sure to what, but a hop 1 is up to ten. Maybe instead of parsecs travelled, it should be jump/hop/skip/other increments? Not sure.

Fuel adds now. Labeling changed from parsecs to number of single jumps/hops/skips available. The label changes with type of jump drive selected.

Apologies if this is something you've already considered and discarded:
In tabs that do not ask for individualized armored bulkheads (particularly 9-Optional and 12-Cargo) would it be feasible to ask for a volume of armored bulkheads instead of an all-or-nothing of items on the tab? Most frequently in 'official' printed stats I've seen missile storage armored while others have not been, but there are occasionally others (e.g. Deepnight Revelation) that have armored some components on these tabs that not typically seen by most designs, but not all of them.

It all seems to be working now. Thanks. I'll let you know if I chance across anything else. with it.

I don't know much about the ammunition storage on the cargo tab, but all the tool tips are the same and only mention sand and missiles. Shouldn't they be different for each as they are now broken out? Then the users can know how many torpedoes or how much railgun ammo they can store.

Looking at the jump/hop/skip control program options on the computer tab, jump looks good, but under both hop and skip, control 9 is jump control rather than hop control/9 or skip control/9.

I think I've looked at all the angles of the changes now. I hope this helped.

It's updated on my master sheet, so it'll be there for the next update.
I'll check on the hop/skip-9 thing as well. Edit: OK, it says Jump but the stats match the drive. That typo will also go away next update.
Three updates in one day is too many. Four is right out.

Understood. Thanks.

I see the different kinds of ammo storage text is editable. Shouldn't that be locked down? Maybe add a couple of user-configurable slots just under them? Someone will change the text and have no idea what it was originally if they ever want to go back. Like me. ;)

FINE.
See? This is why I retired, and why I am not in charge of software development. CRS.

New Version: 2024.09.30C

No idea how the Ammo got unlocked, but it is locked now.
Tool tips updated.
Skip/Hop - 9 displays correctly.

So.... I have a particular concept I want to design in the spreadsheet, and I am not sure how to go about it.

It is a fuel-hauler, that carries large amounts of fuel as cargo in external jump-nets filled with fuel bladders. Between the collapsible fuel tanks and the space for the Jump-Net, I figure 100 dTons of dedicated internal space converts into up to 5000 dTons of external (carried-through-Jump) space. Once the fuel in the external bladder is delivered, everything is packed away & the base ship is much smaller (and requires less Jump-fuel).

My problem is that I don't know how to force the spreadsheet to treat the contents of the Jump-net as part of the calculations for the Jump-drive. I am probably just being dense, and missing the toggle in the sheet; please help.

[Edit: Is that the 'Drives' tab side-bar, 'Use adjusted Ship Tonnage'? /Edit]

That's a cool idea.

Yes. That is what adjusted Ship Tonnage is for.

It does not seem to change the Jump-Fuel.

And the 'Additional Tons of Fuel Carried' cell gives me a 'validation error' with all numeric values.

Feature request: An additional line of Fuel/Cargo containers in the fuel tab; I realize this particular ship-design is a weird edge-case, but having different sized fuel tanks available depending on which configuration the ship is in would be very helpful.

Also, the "Cargo Net" option has no place to enter tonnage. I know it's not the jump net, but I happened to see it. And there I promised to stop looking. Drat!

The fuel section wasn't intended for external cargo, so additional fuel carried is trying to use internal space. The notes section of the Ship Info Tab is where you can put fluff text about the normal usage of your jump-net and bladder rig. You can make a 5000 ton bladder and insert that cost into the Notes section. It is not integral to the ship, and can be passed on to other vessels. You can use internal storage to record the space occupied by the empty bladder, and on a deckplan, add this in to the jump net bay.
The drive size does not change, so the fuel used does not change. The distance travelled changes.
Looking into adjustment to make sure it is still working the way it used to.

Edit: Make sure you are using Actual Tons to calculate drives with adjusted tonnage filled in. Calculate on Actual tons is supposed to calculate off base ship, and side bar gives modified values. Calculate on Adjusted is supposed to give you drives that power a ship of adjusted size at the given number.
Having trouble with M-Drive calculating and trying to troubleshoot while verifying the others are working properly.
