Enemy Attacks

Hello! I need some clarification regarding Enemy Attacks, page 110 of the Training Guide. It states that you should never calculate damage and use Damage in enemy stats, but here's my question:

- Is Amount Over Defence added to the Damage if the enemy successfully attacks a Shield Maiden?

Thanks!

If I understand your question right, no.

There's an example in the book,

'The second trooper targets Melvan with his rifle. The Gamemaster rolls, adds the trooper’s attack and gets a total of 16. Melvan’s Defence is 12, so she is hit! Melvan’s armour resists some of the damage; her Armour Rating is 2, so she will take 2 fewer points of Vitality damage. The bullets pound into her leg, knocking her Vitality down – the Gamemaster checks the trooper’s details and confirms the attack would deal 5 points of damage. With the armour, this is reduced to a loss of 3 Vitality.'

So; if the attack is successful, check the foe's damage. Armour reduces the damage. So damage 10 against armour 3 would result in 7 Vitality loss.

Does that help?

Yes, thank you!

So (let's take an example): a Shield Maiden wearing steel ringmail (+3 Resistance) who activates the Surtian Fusion Galdr Chip (+5 damage reduction) ends up with a total damage reduction of 8.
In this case, many enemies simply cannot harm her: Skelding (4/4 Damage), Zone 30 Gang Boss (6/5 Damage), Centurion (7/8 Damage), Wolf (6 Damage), Eldri Troll (8 Damage), Pure Commissar (7/8 Damage), Jotun Heavyblade (6/7 Damage), Deathguard (7 Damage)... etc.

They stand absolutely no chance against the Shield Maiden.
:)
