Earth-Centauri War - Report!

Hi guys,

Well, the campaign is in full swing right now, and there is much skullduggery going on!

The Earth Alliance has made some very early gains, and the Centauri foolishly left their homeworld in the hands of Drazi mercenaries - needless to say, Centauri Prime is now occupied!

There has already been one attempt by a Grand Admiral to knock his counterpart out of the game, and things can only hot up as territory is fought and re-fought over while the Grand Admirals try to balance their books and the mercenaries make money hand over fist from both sides!

I just cant get the minions i need :(
well so far today the centauri are left with one out of 10 systems so not very good there.
we have been doing well and quite a few times with more time/turns we would have won but by turn 3 or so we are behind but in a commanding position and then time gets called with the damn earthers winning another fight somehow.
as for grand admiral bashes, i turned up to chase triggy however his victory by that point was pretty much wrecked anyway, no front, aft or boresight guns, no SAs, speed crits and no damage control- credit for this goes to Hiffano who was winning without my intervention. again before we could kill him time ran out.

I am sure pics will be up soon (including me in my centauri hair) as mongooses press corps member russel was running round with a camera.

This i gotta see!

The Centauri promptly appointed a press liason officer. What we did _not_ foresee was the two sides trying to buy the press off to gain favourable coverage!

Well, the Centauri could always remind the press laison what happened to the ISN offices, courtesy of President Clark's forces once upon a time . But offering money consumes fewer calories than does "agressive Feng Shui ", so they should try that first.

I'd love to see some pics of the event. :D

Well, the campaign is over, and everyone was tired but happy. Today, a black market sprung up, selling illicit Dilgar technology, the Earth Alliance developed the High Yield Sunstrike Missile, shortly before Earth fell, then later declared a free state by independant fleets!

A full report will be made in S&P!

well we retire battered and defeated but still in possession of our homeworld which is more than can be said for the earthers. also without outside bankrolling I dont think the EA could have survived either.
also we have additional moral victories in the form of killing the earthers grand admiral, and with enough time the replacement grand admiral was in very dire straights.

overall though it was a very fun weekend and i loved just wandering around carrying a jump point marker to see the fear on EA faces of getting an Adira enema. my apologies to the narn player who got jumped 3 times too, sorry you were just in the places i needed to win at the time.

Hey, I don't take it personally - within the framework of the campaign it was probably the right choice of action. However, by the 3rd time it was a pretty demoralizing affair.

In the 6 games I played, only two were enjoyable - the other 4 ended up so ridiculously one-sided as to actually be depressing, but that was 100% a function of the campaign framework and most definitely not a reflection on any of my opponents (which is a point I cannot stress strongly enough!).

When I finally manage to wipe away tears and drag myself away from the precipice I'm currently standing on,, I'll offer up my views on what worked, and what didn't work, in the campaign! (IMHO, of course!)

Cheers!

Dave

I have to say, I Faced the Gaim once, and it was the least cheesy of the two Gaim fleets. I was everjoyed at killing two gaim ships, and reckon with the amount of dice i was about to roll when time was called, I would have killed two more. Their would still have been next to no way for me to win the scenario, but it would have made me feel better. ;-) that said, it was an armageddon level ship with whopping numbers of dice and GEG4 that i needed to kill those raid level ships!!

Overall great weekend, I faced LBH (twice) Foxmeister (twice) Triggy. and the gaim player (richard)) as well as seeing that damned Victory 3 times!! but then killed it once so it's all good!

I "think" actual repair costs should have been calculated, rather than free repairs, a lot of time we seemingly mauled the EA forces only to loose, and outr damage counted for nought!.

Have to say extra special thanks to Triggy! he guided his forces well, and met an untimely end as Admiral, after a raft of incredible crits from a mothership and 4 fast destroyers! rather than flee, he went down fighting!

It was a good weekend - and yes the Centauri can at least be pleased that the homeworld remains in our hands - unlike Earth

Sadly I was one of the more useless minions and only managed to win 1 game out of 6 - and that was only due to the presence of the Grand
Admiral and his Adira.

My Fleet - Liati, 2 Primus (1 with massdriver), 2 Balvarian, Elutarian, Demos, Maximus

Enriched by a "Olympic" breakfast on the way down we began

Game One: Anhilation LOST
As I had a massdriver and was well up for it - I was sent to Sol to "liberate" it from its corrupt govement. There I was confronted by Low Roller (Lee ) and his Earth Force.
(Warlock, 2 Omega, 2 Novas - with Space Station and platforms)

A great game to start with much fun - smashed most of the defences and we both emerged with battered fleets and grins! Funniest part was finally closing to almost 10" of the Space station and then losing my front arc. Lost on VP. I retuned home to find Drazi squaters - got my Primus back but no coin for my Maximus (The Admiral had to spend a full and hard earned coin to get any fraction of your battle point back)!!

Game Two - a Contrast- vs Bens Gaim - Annhilitation LOST
Re vist to Sol (part one)After the first game against this fleet - cotaining more than 150 fighters + breeching pods - in a fun  tournament ,we were told that whoever had to fight the fleet could run at any point as there was no point in fighting it. I agreed and spent a few turns outside the range as he pushed his hundred or so counters twowards me, jumped most of my ships out and held him up for a few turns so he could not reinforce another table by opening jump points from ship in hypersapace. No fun I think for either of us...........

Game Three - Beta III - -vs Psi Corps DRAW
Another good fun game - still down a Maximus ( Imiseed it in a number of piints - both for the anti fighter and interceptors) - I faced off against two hunters, A Marathon, 2 Chronos and a Mothership. A good opponent whose dice cursed him in the first part of the game - killed both hunters quite quickly, but then he somehow pulled a great retrival out of the bag and forced me to a draw as I lost a Liati (with its +1 vs stealth) and a Primus. The Admiral was very disapouinted as he thought it was in the bag when he saw the game early - hangs head in shame...............

After a good night out with food, drink, good company and the most excellent accomodation .............we returned to the fray...

Game Four - A new Day LOST
Vs Greg's Psi Corps - a good friend and practice partner so we knew each others fleet well.......Recon Run

I circled the planet and Greg launched his smaller fleet - only allowed 3pts - 2 hunters, 1 mother ship, carrier, 2 shadowcloaks) in to try and scan the fleet! Two turns of mayhem left all but one Shadowcloak and a battered but not quite crippled mothership - just one more hit, just one more hit...........he managed to scan all my ships and kill an Elutarian and won by 3VP!!!! A good close game but Greg pulled it off with skill and wnet off to annoy David attacking Sol - more shame for me!!!!!!! :(

Game five - Welcome to Sol. Anhiltaion WINAgainst..............Lee Again - we setteled down to a another fun game - only slightly spoiled by his revelation that his Warlock had a F arc refit  - I had by now a Liati with GEG 1 :D
One turn into the game - and obviously well aware of my inability to win anything - the Admiral appeared in his Adira  - opening a jump point some 12 inches or so behind Lee's entire fleet. It was all very one sided then - despite Lee's best attempts - including 6 or 7 weapon crits on the Adira!!! Lee escaped with one Nova and Earth was ours!!!!!!!!!

Game Five Recon run - me attacking LOST
vs Ken's Minbari - 2 Tinashi, 2 Tigara, 1 Morshin, 2 Ashinata
I had Primus, Liati, Balvarian, Maximus, Demos,

Very apprehensive about this (ie I moaned a bit with my old sparing partner and friend) as I had to break stealth to even attempt to scan!
All started badly with the Balvarin and Maximus getting hammered as I tried to approach and scan - returned the favour by the Liati seeing the two Ashinatas - battering both and scanning and battering a Tig. The Balvarin vansihed under the tinashi squadrons fire and the Primus got hurt. Demos crippled one Ashinata. Maximus died The 2 the Demos was shattered by return fire. Both Tinashis are scanned
Next turn the Demos died to fighters and the Primus was smashed by a 6,6 crit form the two Tinashi's after it had managed to see a tinashi (despite a re -roll formits refit) and cripple it. The Liati (with GEG2) cruised round and destroyed the Tinashi and a damaged Tigara before being overwehelmed by the Minbari fleet in the course of three Short (for me) and long (for Ken) turn. Again I had failed on points...............and let the Centauri down - at least I could go home to a homeworld

All in all good fun.......................and thanks to all involved in organising the event, the evening out, the wonderful place to stay and my excellent travelling companions, opponents and all the new / renewed friend from the forum and previous tournaments! Also my new ships etc Derina!

:D :D :D

Yes I did well with my Narn =5 wins to one lost

First Battle at Gorash, big double with my mate Andy vs the Drakh and the Centauri, just won by the skin of my G'Vrahn teeth and without losing a ship.

Second defended Centauri Prime from counter attack (funny, Narn defending the cursed planet) against Lord David, won without losing a ship.

Third defended Jericho to another Centauri player John won that too losing just 1 G'Karith

Good start to the Narn Regime. :D

Then Sunday first game to take the last Centauri held target (Orion) faced Clanger's Drakh and lost, failed and by then both sides even 5-5. :(

Second Game back to Orion by accident of communications and lucky won it back just from the Centauri grasp.

last game of the weekend rematch against Lord David for the fate of Beta 3 and won again, with that victory and my fellow comrades four other victories. the grand alliance of the Narn/Minbari/ISA and Earth won the war :D .

Just hope that for my effort a new Narn ship will be jumping in soon :D .

but overall it was a good weekend and thanks to the earth alliance team for welcoming a Narn player.

Overall it was a very enjoyable weekend, and I'll look forward to the report in S&P, but despite how it may appear it wasn't all doom and gloom for the Mighty Centauri Republic, and we weren't all silly.

I personally think that I am one of the few Centauri players that can hold their heads high, having one 4 out of my 6 games, with one of those being a loss only in the most marginal terms. The game I completely lost, being a doubles game with LDTD against minbari and the most cheesy broken gaim fleet I've ever [quite sadly] encountered in this glorious game, was still done so under admiralty orders. While me and dave took one for the team, tactically it did ensure that the gaim fleet was not capable of coming to Sol's rescue, and we only suffered minimal losses.

I think we can call it a moral victory to the Centauri, we lost our homeworld but won it back, but the EA lost their homeworld, had it turned into a rogue state AND had their grand admiral killed. :D [no offense triggy.lol]

My fleet consisted of 2 Liati, 2 Dargan, 2 Demos and 2 Morgrath, with my liatis being personally responsible for the destruction of 2 Warlocks!

All in all though, I think fun was had on either side, and for me it has been great to put some names to faces [charles, steve "our glorious leader" wilson, jim and a few others, sadly I didn't get chance to meet everyone] and it has been good to see how others play.

Hats off for the centauri I think to our Grand Admiral, steve wilson, who I think did an excellent job!Hussah
