Ducks, Dwarves and Broo

yeah, the main book entry mostly paints them as being warhammer beastmen and little else.

We do remember where Warhammer got its Beastmen from, right?

Not sure if it was a printed scenario, or something our twisted GM at the time made up;
We were hired in Alone to to clear out a large 'gang' of Broo who had managed to herd a Brontosaurs into snake pipe hollow.

The broo had used spirits to possess and control the brontosaurs who was being used as an incubator... rather gross... the broo had impregnated it through wounds they'ld inflicted.

It took two attempts to clean up the gang and finish off/burn the host Brontosaur... scared me for life :)

Thats a good damn idea. I'll steal that for when my new campaign gets to a "boss fight" moment

One of the adventures in the old RQ Adventures fanzine (Escape from Duckland?) had an encounter with a bunch of broo, including a dinosaur broo with the chaotic feature "breathe flame".

Adventurers, meet "Broozilla"...

(The PCs actually dispatched it quite quickly thanks to lucky rolls as well as running heroically up its back and stabbing it in the eye! You got to reward cahones like that.)

But broos were such a _rich_ set of bad guys. 8)

Ugh, tell me about it.

A friend run a not-Glorantha-but-influenced-by-if RQ campaign for a decade. All the other characters died or retired after a horrible disaster, but my trickster hobbit went on to play a 7 year solo campaign in the world.

It's not easy to be a 20 kg heroquesting trickster hero (or antihero), the humans rarely take you seriously.

On one occasion his luck finally run out. He was captured, auctioned off to the one of his enemies that would pay the most... which turned out to be this semi civilized broo boss.

Next thing the character knows is that he's tied up to a table, has a leather sack over his head. There are sinister drums in the background, he realizes he's naked and then somebody ram's a hot poker up his... except it's not a poker, or course =(

Uh, then a Divine Intervention in the vein of "I don't care what it costs! I don't care what I'll owe, or if there is any soul left after this! Just get me the f*** out of here!!!!!!"

Uh... intense gaming, and definitely with a R or X rating.

So yeah... I remember me the broo. That's actually one aspect that I don't go into as a GM. At least not in such graphic detail. But when gaming between two college students, why not... Dark Fantasy doesn't get much darker than getting raped by a broo.

Here something I always wonder about. Since Male Broo can mate with anything? Can Females Broo do so?Since mating with one of her male Broo is a death sentence, do they even bother to mate at all. I know its been written that most female Broo are worshippers of Malia since Thed does not want female worshippers, So Im also wondering if Malia then infects her Female broo worshippers with some form of disease that renders them sterile, even to other Broo.Would explain why many Malia worhippers are couples loyal to each other, while in normal Broo society such couples seem never to exist.

The sterility's a good idea, but are there any Broo female, anyway? The interspecies gift would make sense to a species which no longer has any females.

Broo are 85% male and only 15 % females. And a large number with sex organs of both(about 10%) Female Broo did appear in the old borderlands supplement and in other places.

No, a female broo can get pregnant in much the same way as anyone else. However, her offspring is a broo and gets out using broobirth, chewing its way out of her stomach.

So, female broos try and avoid rumpy-pumpy where possible.

There's an example in Dorastor or Lords of Terror where Ralzakark's Daughter is a female broo who runs away to avoid such a fate.

I reckon that being sterile isn't much of a hindrance when mated with a male broo. If they can breed with other males, which they can, then a sterile female poses no problem at all.

The moral is: Don't sleep with Broo.

Thinking about it, he must have been really ugly if even broos have to put a bag over his head!

The mind boggles.

In Bordeland several Broo couples are mentioned. And Murriah the Human female Shaman of Malia is also mention to be Sterile and its hinted that several Broo have tried to mate with her to no effect. So it is possible to be immune to being made pregnant by a Broo

Might add another reason I believe female Broo have some form of birth contol that works with Male Broo is because if they did not, would any female broo make it past their 5th Birthday?

Perhaps that is why there are so few females?

But boy, the ones that survive must be some tough bitches.

Um... no? Broo mature very, very, VERY rapidly from a larval form over the course of a very few years. These are often found in the wild as the 'father' tends to sow his seed widly and many of the host-mothers are wild beasts such as sheep, goats, deer, or cattle. That said, its not uncommon for Broo to keep herds for breeding purposes. There's a fair bit written on Broo and their lifecycle in quite a few places if you are of a mind to look at it.

On the whole, Broo are unpleasant, even unto themselves.

I don't like the "female broo die in broobirth" angle of later material. That's just stoopid. I'd say broo can mate quite normally, male to female, and that those broo are pretty pure looking, powerful goatmen types.

A female broo can also mate with any male creature that it can get to fertilize itself. I'd say that these creatures secrete a very powerful pheromone that makes almost any male perform, even if it has to be tied up or othervice subdued first.

Gender equality for the broo! :D

<snip>

"Daughter" of Ralzakark is a male broo actually. A male broo buggered by another male could indeed have to undergo broobirth. I'd say it usually doesn't happen though, and they can bugger each other quite safely (for social order, like a pecking order among chickens, except with a few letters changed).

Still, if a male broo gives birth to broo, he's a goner. A female can breed normally. That's the older version I like.
