Dredd - Background Resources

Have just ordered the core book and am really looking forward to getting into this. However, while I have a passing knowledge of the basics of the Judge Dredd/Cursed Earth setting, it's not nearly enough to "dive in". Then, given the HUGE range of material out there, it's a little daunting as to where best to begin. I would really appreciate any suggestions/recommendations people can pass along (primarily focused on novels/TBPs).

Thanks in advance,

AJC

It's been recomended a couple of time before, but, the Judge Dredd Complete case files are excellent.

I agree. There's no better resource.

But you will find the rules give you the right amount of background depth to understand Mega City One and the Judges. The stories themselves will, though, offer an absolute wealth of entertainment and inspiration.

There's a Judge Dredd A-Z book that's a handy reference work - by Mike Butcher. No longer in print but you can pick it up on Amazon or ebay

Yep complete Case files, then the Movie.

Get off this forum immediately, and hand your Dredd books in at the door :x

Such movie hate Fordy!

Remember for a lot of folks out there the movie, is their only exposure to Dredd, AND, while it was a hack tastic piece of crap, it's the only starting point a lot of folks have with it.

It did pull in almost 114 million world wide in theaters (90 million to make though but then 22 or so of that was Sly's paycheck). It made more then a bit of a mess of the story though but still, in a sort of cult film kinda way, is with enough beer, oddly entertaining.

BUT, Diane Lane was not hard on the eyes one bit. Not Hard at all. :D

Got much higher hopes for the New Greenlit reboot. Should be a smokin good time. Especially considering Center Hub Steering has gotten to the point to where they could easily do a proper Lawmaster instead of trying to kill stuntmen every bike scene.

In my particular case the Traveller version was my first exposure...

Hence why they need to put out as much background material as possible. :D

Movie was 2nd exposure, hadn't ever gotten around to watching it prior to that.

3rd was Bad Moon Rising.

Bad Moon Rising is a lot of fun. Got hopes for the new Movie though. I want Jason Statham as Dredd. :D

From January next year your wish will be more than granted.

Does that include my wining Power Ball Lottery Ticket and a Free Copy of all things 2000AD comics wise? OH, and a Durham Red Mongoose Booth Babe for next Gencon? :D I wish big.

For anyone who's not currently reading it, there's a great Dredd storyline running in 2000AD at the moment...

Not as easy to get ahold of 2000AD over here as what it used to be. Now though, I am jealous, and Inciting Jealousy is 5 years in the Cursed Earth bub.

In the spirit of global Dreddlihood (and to avoid Cursed Earth deportation and wean you off your love of the film) I would gladly buy an extra copy each week and post it to you, postage free. You could paypal me the prog price once a month or sommat.

LOL, may take you up on that. I must defend myself though. I didn't love the movie, but with enough beer, I can tolerate it, and I've seen worse.

Other then that. Like I said Diane Lane isn't hard on the eyes one bit. :D
