Pg143 – Docking and Landing: “These two procedures are routine and performed whenever a ship travels between systems…” Ships can travel between two planets, or ground to orbit (station), or orbital station to orbital station.
Landing: There is no mention about the time it takes to de-orbit, approach the starport and then land. Is this an oversight? Shouldn’t there be a formula for how long it takes a streamlined ship vs. a non-streamlined ship to leave low orbit and actually land? Or even a mention of some rule of thumb to have a standard that players can use? I would expect A/B starports might have longer landing times due to traffic considerations and maybe ground facilities (like mile high residential towers) or even that people don't want spaceships flying overhead. C/DE/X ships might just be able able to plot whatever course they want. This could be different even for higher law level worlds. Some hints/guidance/story here would be nice.
Docking: Docking occurs between ships and stations as well. Also, most ships will always extend a docking tube (especially stations) because they have projections that prohibit hull to hull docking. A scout couldn’t dock with a Free Trader because of the shape of the hull (or at least docking with the two ships side-by-side as the illustrations always come out). This will be true for most of the book designs.
