Dissapointed in the lack of Hype for the release ACTA:SF

All of those answers are good to hear, if a little short on details. :) That should get a few more of my friends playing. I am interested to learn more about these tactical challenges mentioned as well.

Iron Domokun, you may be interested to learn that there are also a -number- of scenarios in SFB which may interest you. A quick check shows there are there are, to date, 86 'general' scenarios, 257 'historical', 280 'Captain's Log' (bi-annual magazine published by ADB), 18 'monster', as well as a number of published campaigns of various sizes, and that's not even the full list. More empires and their ships added later will only increase your options.

Also, am I to understand that ACTA is played on a hexless map/board?

Finlos:
Yes. ACTA is played on a hexless map.
That is why the stands are clear, unmarked plastic disks as shown in the preview pics.
But for those playign Fed Comm or SFB with the new ST2500 minis - The existing hexes can be seen through the plastic stands.

The plastic stands are a bit large and some tweaking will be required, but it is doable.

Finlos - I know, I've been into the SFU for a while :) Most of those scenarios are small-ish though... there are a few big ones that would be easily convertable from FC, such as Form Line of Battle, Battle of Organia, or Showdown at Grimrock. I want an excuse to put a truckload of minis on the table! Visual spectacle to go with my booze and pizza! :D

I was really surprised at the stealth-like deployment of this game.

Don't be too worried about this - over the next month you hopefully won't be able to go out of your front door without hearing about the game :)

That is good to hear. I just pre-ordered the rules at my FLGS. Based on what I understand of the Fleet Box content I will most likely be ordering two of those as well.

Fair enough. One of the great things about this joint venture is how much more exposure both of these games are getting. Most of the SFB scenarios are, I think, small-ish because that's where the game flows best. With the increased size of fleets in SFB comes a corresponding amount of bookkeeping, particularly when you get into the sheer volume of seeking weapons some races can fire and that tends to deter most folks from a really great game.

I also want fleet battles. Watching fleets of minis fly across the table to engage the enemy is going to be great and being able to do it in an evening can only get more players into the game. :)

All my questions will be answered shortly!
