The Narn and the Dilgar had a very interesting and occasionally mutually profitable relationship through the early stages of the Dilgar war, with technology transfer in both directions. Where did the freakishly unprecedented laser cannon on the Ochlavita come from? The Narn Mag Gun is basically a Mass Driver throwing a ball of plasma instead of a solid lump of rock. Derived from the Centauri mass driver? Yeah, right.
I have to admit, I seldom Pentacon, because with the smaller ships, I prefer the freedom of movement, and the initiative sinking. With the larger ships, I'm not sure what actually needs to be hit with that sort of firepower.
Two related matters; first, the shock of actually, for once, seeing the Dilgar at the other end of the table. Secondly, working out how the EA managed to win the Dilgar War. An old friend passing through, experienced wargamer in general but not in ACtA, he took the Dilgar and I took Early EA. 5-Raid, Call to Arms.
Fleet choice, on his part- one Targrath, three Jashakar, three Rohric. I was skeptical. Me, EA(eurgh), a Nova, two S&P Saggi, two Artemis, two Olympus, two Missile Tethys, two Hermes.
Steve called the game after losing all the Jashakar, the Targrath and one of the Rohric. I was down a Hermes, an Artemis and about a quarter of the Nova. Strike Cruisers and Assault Ships don't belong in the same fleet list- they can't support each other.
It was messy. So after that we changed ends, metaphorically speaking, and I took a Dilgar hunting pack out and killed one of the Ancients with it, just to set the record straight. Be aware of that, though; potentially, the Early EA list can beat the Dilgar at their own game.
