Dilgar Variants

there's quite a few ships for other races at skirmish that are nasty, and can deal out some dirty beamy goodness, like the Narn Ka'tan and Ka'toc.

I do like this ship, tho, because I always felt there wasn't enough bolter goodness below raid level for the Dilgar.

I agree with you bud ,as a massive dilgar fan, below raid there is not enough
bolter goodness.

Theres a reason for that. Very few ships in the game of that PL even have double damage weapons at all, let alone those that score triple damage crits! Seriously look across the spectrum of other fleets only a very few ships in entier game at skirmish or lower have any DD or TD weapons and in all those cases they generally have hardly any AD (in fact the only other Triple damage weapon I can think of at that level is the Ka'Tocs mag gun and that has only 1 AD!)

from experience... I'd like to see the SL dropped from torps and all bolters at 15"

erm no that would come firmly under the heading of 'broken beyond belief'. Seriously Dilgar already one of the nastiest most powerful fleets in game if used correctly. They dont do it with beams or fancy gadgets they just have massive and overwhelming firepower. The saving grace against them that makes them a balanced opponent is that that firepower is fairly short ranged and tends to be predominately forward arc.

Give them longer ranged bolters across the fleet or torps that can fire continously and all of a sudden they have overwhelming firepower that CANT be outranged by most opponents. It doesnt take a genius to see that in a fight between a vs b, if all other factors are more or less euqal, and a has about twice the firepower of b, a is going to win every time....

As a side note I would say that I find it best for people to NOT look for weaknesses in their own fleet and power ups for it when suggesting rules that need updating as its far too easy to not be imparatial. For example I would LOVE more hit points for the Chronos frigate and forward arc heavy lasers for the Omega, and Precise missiles on Thunderbolts etc etc. Now flat out I can say that in just about all these cases that would break my fleet. but you can see what I mean. Now before anyone points out my signature and current thing about the Warlock, yes I know, but bear in mind that I am in fact talking about a DOWNGRADE to the Warlock and at that, a downgrade to a previously official stat line that noone had a problem with. Even so its precicely for the reasons I mention above that Im reluctant to houserule the Warlock back in my local club.

locutus bud, dont take this the wrong way, im not finding weakness in my fleet, its strange how a race thats know for its bolters when it gets to skirmish level forgets them and adds torpedoes and beam weapons ,me personally id like to see the ochlavita lose its beam and rear firing bolters and just add them to the front say 3AD or 4AD.
And as for ships of skirmish level or lower that don't have dd or td ,
xixx,vaarka,brikorta,thentus,ka'toc,ka'tan,vorchan,vorchat,morgrath,kutai
,haven,darkner,torotha,artemis,tethy laser boat,olympus,hyperion rail cruiser
drakh heavy raider.
agreed they dont have many AD at them but they have other systems on them too like interceptors ,fighters, scout, stealth, precise,
multiple weapon systems and more fire arcs.
no im not having a go at you bud,but i was not complaining about weaknesses ,like i say bud im not having a pop.

I'm not doing these variants to power-up the already impressive Dilgar, but to add some more ships to the fleet that perform different roles. I don't think the ships I've done are overly powerful in any shape or form, but this will come out during the playtesting phase of my work and amended accordingly.

My main reason for these ships is that I'm sick to death of every other race getting new ships and my favourite fleet getting nothing, and while I've been extremely vocal on the matter of the Drakh and Dilgar getting sweet FA in Armageddon, the game's latest release, I've decided to take a different approach - I'm being constructive on this subject.

At the present, these ships represent some of the work I'm doing to try and bring the Dilgar back into the B5 universe, into the present day.

The first stage is working on some of the ships and possible reasons why the Dilgar got beaten in the first place. This phase is going pretty well, and I hope to have something done in PDF shortly, along the same lines of Rich Bax's work.

The second stage is to introduce some experimental Dilgar ships that would contain tech from the races that they were fighting, such as interceptors, advanced jump points, different weapons systems etc.

Finally, the third stage is to bring the Dilgar back from the dead, with totally new ships and variations of the old, and a taste for revenge against the races that defeated them.
