Differences between CT and mongoose?

So for those that have played CT and mongoose are there any major differences? I know the die during character creation has been made optional, what about damage during combat? I heard that is a little different. What are some if any of the major changes?

Combat is different in that armor subtracts from the damage dice instead of affecting the to hit roll; skills and tasks in general are affected by there being stat modifiers.

Classic Traveller also had character death during chargen in later editions (ca. 1981).

In Classic Traveller, more armor makes it harder to hit a guy ("hit" meaning touching one's skin, a throwback to old D&D).

In Mongoose Traveller, more armor makes it harder to damage a guy (the guy was hit, but was he hurt?).

Mongoose Traveller has 12 careers and much more skills in its core rules than Classic Traveller has in its core rules (5? 6 careers?).

In my humble opinion CT and MGT are very close, I prefer playing CT but I use the MGT task system and attribute modifiers. For character creation though it is CT book 1 and Citizens of the Imperium. I use the optional books like Mercenary and High Guard just for gear and education stuff. I just want to be able to modify my PDF copy of the CT character sheet with the Mongoose attribute modifiers and a scale showing the values of hex up to F and the value with standard numbers.

I've slightly modified the to-hit modifiers in starship combat in MGT based on CT. That way pilot skill can be as valid as gunnery skill.

Basically, if someone dodges (using a thrust), I subtract their piloting DM from the attackers roll.
