Deck Plan Creation Assets as a Purchasable Product

Terry Mixon

Emperor Mongoose
I'm busy modifying one of the ships in Adventure Class ships, using photoshop to clip things from other deck plans. The process is slow and somewhat fiddley, and it occurred to me that Mongoose could create a digital-only product (or maybe even a physical one for tabletop use) with the grid and all the various things that might go on a deck plan and sell it.

Goodness knows that might make the process both simpler and allow GMs to create plans that are of higher quality. I can make something work for my players with photoshop, but other GMs might not have that option. Is that something you guys could consider?

You might find a few usable parts on this thread. One of the posts on the 1st page (april 19th, 2022) has a pair of links. One for a background with grid & another for symbols. There might be a few more further on the thread but I don't remember where.
Many thanks to Arkathan for the ships designs & links on this thread.

Which thread? Give me a link or a title and I'll happily go check it out. Thanks for the heads up.

The Mongoose deckplans are done with Adobe Illustrator.

Another vector program that is available for free would be Inkscape (some of the first edition plans where done using Inkscape).

Vector programs generally have a built in grid you can make use of.

I have an old version of illustrator but don’t know how to use it. I have at least some knowledge of photoshop. I’m definitely not pro.

That is my Custom Ships thread (Thanks and you're welcome Alqualonde)
https://forum.mongoosepublishing.com/threads/custom-ships.123343/

I started to look up the links to Robert Pearce's Starship Symbols and Starship Geomorphs 2.0, the former of which I use on my ships (scaled at 178%), however it is released under a non-commercial license.
If you are still interested, I'll find the link to his blog page where you can download them.
Edit: found it for anyone else interested
Yet Another Traveller Blog

Attaching my grid templates. I don't remember where I originally got them, but I've tweaked them enough that they aren't the original anymore, so thanks to whoever created the one I edited... whoever you are. EDIT: Robert Pearce did the original. It is on his download page. see my next post edit below.

Thanks. I somehow missed that it was the thread name. ;)

I'm not doing commercial work, so please do send it if you can find it.

Thanks Arkathan. I forgot to paste the link in my earlier post. Sorry about that.
The thread is a real trove for ideas and pointers on how to make maps.
I need to find time to make a few of my own ships.

For some reason, I couldn't color the second link blue. Dunno why, but the thing utterly refused to change color.
The bold, italic underlined Yet Another Traveller Blog is the link to Robert Pearce's stuff. You can find both books in his side bar on the right.

Edit: OK, just the Geomorphs was there.
Here is the page for the Symbols Book:
Starship Symbols

The link there has several formats and his original ship template. Warning on the template, my copy or my conversion from pdf had several lines that varied by a few pixels as you followed them down or across the page. My png fixed those. But YMMV.

Got them and will be scrolling the thread. Thanks for the direction. Even so, I hope Mongoose thinks about doing one with the assets used in their products so we could have ours look the same without a lot (A LOT) of copy/pasting, resizing, and cleaning things up.

I like this idea. I've build several custom ships, but I've only tried to draw an interior once. I don't have much artistic ability so it looked like a brick... A tool to help with that would be fantastic.
