Dark Matter scyfy series

Hopeless

Mongoose
Thought this was starting tonight appears to be this Monday over here in the UK at 8pm and repeated the next night please let me know if I missed another broadcast of this!

Bought the graphic novel of the comic this is based on and got wondering as it feels very Traveller orientated, what do you think?

Just watched the trailer. It's for sure SyFy content. Needs more Sci-Fi though. But I can see Traveller one-shots starting out like this. Characters wake up on an old ship with their memories gone.

So what was the last thing they remembered? Lets suppose it was us that went to bed and woke up in a starship with absolutely no memory of how we got there, what would we do?

Depends on whether their are any manuals on how to fly it and whether it was written in English so we could read it. If it was a Traveller style starship. I think a Mercenary Cruiser would be best, as that would give us lots of places to explore. It has a Jump-3, we'd need to learn how to operate the computer, and ideally everything would not be encrypted, we'd thus look for online documents and operators manuals. And then we'd have to learn by doing! We'd have about 4 weeks to figure everything out before the starship runs out of fuel.

Of course, in these kind of movies, they never forgot how to speak english. And they still know how to drive and do the stuff they did before losing the memory. Most of the time, they just don't remember who they are or where they're from.

Lt. Uhura got a total mind wipe in one Star Trek episode. Kirk got his ID erased in another episode, but could still remember how to do certain things. McCoy was asking people what planet he was on in another episode. But he remembered being a doctor still.

It's all trite though with these current sci-fi plotlines.

So what if the reason for this is that they're clones?

Awakened early their built in memories surface but without the proper stimulus they develop differently ergo why they retain the knowledge to pilot, repair the ship and mercenary skills but through interacting with each other they respond differently.

Maybe there should have been someone present to awaken them but being used by penny pinching corporates this is overlooked and they wake up with no one to insure they follow the corporate line.

Not the series they're showing but would explain the memory loss but retaining their skills.

Is that doable and would as a player this be an interesting revelation rather than a game ending argument in the making?

Watched it last night, it was ok. The clone idea is cool, and is also used in Metamorphosis Alpha.

For a game I'd more go for a frozen watch type deal.

Muscle memory wouldn't be so developed for the recently cloned; kept thinking gothic Voyager meets Aliens, which would fit in with android and relatively hot looking android.

Saw the trailer.
They remember their skills, Pilot-2, Blades-3, etc.

It has promise, but judging from the first episode it bears similarity to Blake's Seven, and that means the creative team has to be very careful with production values, because they may have blown most of their budget on the starship interiors.

It would make things more interesting if we wasn't dealing with just one ship but several maybe with an adjusted crew since I doubt the cast have the range to play differing versions of their original character.

Still that leaves whose behind them?

And if they want to turn this into a series what else is there to discover?

An organisation mind wiping prisoners assigning them to a specific ship and sent out to repay their costs and expenses. They probably never live long enough to finish their sentence that's if that's the intention after all imagine a business using these resources to profit from but doesn't want unnecessary questions coming back to them.

Huh competing corporates so maybe a Mercenary Guild?
Somewhere they can learn of new missions, repair their ship, new crew, etc sounds like a discussion worthy of Traveller perhaps?

No whirling mass of metal shooting out a column of water at you every time its activated... maybe wave of instantly annihilate anything in its way is a better description except for titanium...?

Will Wheaton is appearing in this... wait that was Eureka and Leverage he was in wasn't it?

You did say different from Stargate not better than didn't you?

Blake Seven!

Of course that means the info on them might not be reliable one of them has an implant to inhibit violent behaviour and I can't see anyone capable of awesome such as Avon or can break into anywhere if scared enough Villa!

Say Blake Seven would actually fit the show's premise if their ship was abandoned and they were left for dead...

Hello Orac!

Oh hold on in Blake Seven the body was actually the bad guy!

Still hoping to watch tonights pilot episode!

Which channel is Dark Matter on?

On Channel 4 last night at 9 O'clock a new series (called "Humans") about synthetic people being integrated in society started.

ScyFy channel I believe that's what they're called now :?

I believe its repeated tomorrow on the same channel at 9pm.
Thanks for that. It looks as if it is only broadcast on paid for TV. I've only got FreeSat which is good enough for me most of the time.

There are a couple of sites claiming to air that series, but I'm hoping a certain You tuber starts a series of reviews of it as he did Agents of Shield and other series.

Either way I'm still hoping to catch that tonight!
