Dark Corners of the World Articles

Kazzigum

Mongoose
Hey there all! For those of you who remember, I'm the guy who wrote the Xuthal article in S&P way back when. I originally wrote six of these articles, and I submtted three total to Mongoose. It has been some time since that last one was published, and from the looks of things in S&P it looks like Conan stuff in general is being shunned, so I really have little hope that the remaining two will be published any time soon. I never bothered submitting the remaining three for these reasons. Anyway, with second edition looming and my recent decision to give up freelancing, I figured I'd offer them to any of you guys interested. I spent a lot of blood, sweat and tears writing them, so I'd be gratified to know that someone read and maybe enjoyed them.

So if any of you are interested, just pop me an e-mail at kazzigum1@yahoo.com and I can send them your way. I'd prefer to not send out the two still with Mongoose yet (unless someone official says I might as well), but the last three I'd be happy to send. Each is in its own Word file, though none of the last three has maps -- despite the fact that I'm no cartographer, I still spent 5-6 hours on each (the Xuthal map, incidently, was not too much more than the way I originally did it, cleaned up of course). The remaining three are not updated to the AE yet, but overall that's just minor tweaks anyway.

See ya guys around.

I also submitted several articles for S&P (7 to be exact and only 1 got published), and I join you in your disappointment of Mongoose. 1 out of 7 is a pretty lousy ratio, IMHO. They to not treat writers with much if any respect, but then again, that is pretty much standard in the publishing biz. It's for that reason I won't be submitting any more articles, or promoting/buying their products. Frankly they are more interested in whoring their beloved Runequest stuff than giving us devoted Conan fans what we want. I was also turned away from a primo editing/writing job for Mongoose, but they were looking (predictably) for Runequest writers than for the Conan RPG. For what it's worth, I could have improved the editorial standard of the company by several degrees (and we all know editorial improvements were very much needed).
It was an immense pleasure to read the thoughts of other Conan fans (and the superlative Mr. Darlage), but I'm afraid the Golden Age of the Conan RPG is now past us.

Signing off,

Yogah.

Oops, my memory was a bit faulty. I actually have sent the first four articles to Mongoose. Therefore, I have only two to share for the time being. My bad. On the plus side, that means I have finished one more map than I thought. Woo Hoo!

Don't be too hard on Mongoose. They produce a lot of game settings and it is very hard to support them all with only one magazine.
Conan RPG isn't dead else Mongosoe wouldn't releases a second edition.

What would be good though would be to have a revival of the initial Sons of Crom programe to which everyone could contribute and who would be available as an online download (like a sort of goodies) after Mongoose has acknowledged the material.

Kazzigum, I've had a copy of your articles passed on to me - good stuff, thanks for making them available.

Doc, thanks for the kind words. I loved Howard's Conan as a teen -- still do in fact -- so I used these articles as my own sort of personal tribute to him. It makes me happy that someone besides me enjoyed them.

Yeah, as far as Mongoose goes, I don't want to be too bitter. To be honest, I don't know all the facts and they DO publish a lot of stuff. And look at the Conan RPG itself. It's a thing of beauty really. So true to the source material that I've always loved. As far as gaming goes, it pretty much single-handedly pulls Conan and the Hyborian Age up from the laughing-stock they were and cements them as the true, unique and awesome fantasy setting that they really were. Who am I to complain?

This is just me facing the facts. I see change coming for Conan and it seems obvious that my articles will not be part of it -- at least not the two I have not even submitted yet. I just want those fans that they were meant for to have the chance to see them while they are still pertinant to the game.

I think its wonderfull that fans with the skills (and the time :D ) are writing stuff for Conan.

And I am thinking if Mongoose wont publish your work, cant it be published somewhere else on the I-net? (With someone as Kazzigum / Yogah of Yag as the moderator) If that is posible then I am sure that a lot of fans would be very happy (including me... love them sourcebooks  )

sounds to me a little "whiny". perhaps your submitted stuff isn't good enough?

sorry...no offense meaned!

but if some fans would send me stuff for a product line and i don't like it...i won't publish it. is this a reason for not buying the product? ok..if you would have said "the books are full of fillers, there are no / too few maps, too few pages"....i could understand that and be on your ship matey...but because the don't publish your stuff ???????????????????????????????

It's really not kind to assume that Yogah's articles aren't "good enough" to be published. The man has done some nice efforts (with his index and other stuff) and shared them with others for free. Like I wrote it in the thread about S&P, there's a lot of Conan material that has not been published. Do you also assume that the stuff written by Kazzigum, Erick Rodriguez and Vincent Darlage that wasn't published is not "good enough" ?

Hey guy's,

I really can't talk about it. I know Conan has gotten 'shafted' lately, but I assure you a lot of good stuff is coming out soon.

I especially hope you guy's stop by the the Mongoose Booth at Indy, because if you dont' you will really miss out.

Hello ! :) "A lot of good stuff": are you talking about the second edition and the bestiary, about adventures or other products ? Can you give us more information ? A little hint ? :?:
