CSC Problem: TL 8 Light Assault Gun

rust

Mongoose
The TL 5 Antitank Rifle has the same damage values as the TL 8 Light As-
sault Gun, but it is both much less expensive and much lighter and has
less recoil - as written, it is the much superior weapon, despite its lower
TL.

The only possible advantage of the TL 8 LAG could be hidden behind
the "6d6 SP (Anti-armour)", where the TL 5 Antitank Rifle has a
"6d6 AP (Anti-Armour)" - but I have no idea whether the LAG's
"SP" is a typo or some ammunition description I fail to find in the book.

Besides, according to the weapon's description, the TL 8 LAG is able to
fire flechette rounds, but I do not find a damage value for those rounds.

There a few little discrepancies like this all through the book. Only here and there, but with so many different weapons it was bound to happen.

So the TL16 plasma rifle seems to outperform a TL18 fusion rifle, being lighter, less recoil, and slightly more damage.

It sometimes happens that a more advanced piece of kit comes along that actually underperforms compared to established kit.

Just notching up one on the TL scale is never a guarantee that your tech will be sufficiently advanced to qualify as indistinguishable from magic.

Particularly if it's military or Government funded ...

Besides, the characters of my guerilla war campaign will love this TL 5
Antitank Rifle: Less expensive to copy and build, easier to carry, and
with enough power to ruin the average ATV the government forces can
send into the forested mountains. :D

I wonder whether one of the players will have the idea to turn it into an
"Anti-Air/Raft-Gun" to get rid of those annoying spotter air/rafts searching
for the rebel camps ...

Ahhh! Those thoughts bring memories long forgotten about old-fashioned anti-tank rifles being used against light battledress during The New Era (1202 millieu)...

"Crunch-guns" they were called IIRC.

There's also descriptions for two similar heavy gauss rifles, both intended for sniping, but only one set of stats in the table.

Yet, these things happen. I still expect this book to get used almost as much as the core rulebook. I'm just looking forward to the errata.
