Crusade EA Project: The Quasar Dreadnought -STARTS-

Yeah. They need a bit of testing to be sure but I think that'd be better. If you get caught in a broadside it's going to hurt like hell(22AD of AP is vicious) but I think that might be balanced by the fact that the ship will get no early shots in due to a complete lack of long range weapons unlike a lot of Battle level ships. Still might be a little too strong but it's more in line with other Battle level ships at this point. I'm mostly using the Omega, Secondus, and Primus as a comparison at this point as they're the most thematically similar in their role(the G'Quan being underpowered for Battle makes it a poor ship to compare with). We'll probably have to tweak the weapons a bit more after someone does some playtesting(I'm suspecting we're going to end up downgrading the railgun) but this is a good base point to start from.

Goldritter - those stats are pretty balanced. I'd drop the railgun by 4AD (or the pulsars by 2AD each) but I would keep the fighters (probably two but maybe four Thunderbolts) as it's just so in character for the EA.

OK,
what do you think about these stats ?

PL: Battle
Speed: 8
Damage: 56 / 20
Craft: 2 Flights Starfury
Turn: 1 / 45°
Crew: 52 / 15
Hull: 6
Troop: 2
Special Rules:
Interceptor 3, AF 4, Flight-Computer, Jumpengine, Lumbering

Weapon | Arc | Range | AD | Special

Fusion Pulse | F | 15" | 10 | AP, TL
Fusion Pulse | P | 15" | 14 | AP, TL
Fusion Pulse | S | 15" | 14 |AP, TL
Fusion Pulse | A |15" | 8 |AP, TL
Railgun | T | 15" | 4 |AP, DD

Is the Damage and the Threshold OK ?
It should have fewer Crew as an Omega, because of the Flight-Computer (and the space needed for the Weapons and Reactors to power these Monsters).

And is the AF ok, or should it be higher / lower.
(I would think to rise it to 6, escpacialy if it loose its Fighter compliment in the next step.)

Errr.. How to say this...

I'm not an ACTA wargamer, just a model collector. Could you guys tell me how powerful these new dreadnoughts (supposedly) are? What they're good against, their weakness, how do they compare to other ships in the show, etc.

I'm interested in non-canon ship designs, but I'm a newb in these forums so I don't really get it from the stats proposed

I'd appreciate any help.

That version looks good. Something playable and that you'd definately consider sticking in a battle level slot without being so good that it's the obvious choice that you'd stick into the slot over everything else in the game. 4 AF is fine.

The Nova II (Quasar don´t know which name will stuck ), is an advanced Nova Dreadnought.

It´s weaknesses are:
- it´s smaller Fighter Compliment in comparison to the Omega or Nova (which carries the double ammount of Fighters)
- it´s lack of long-range weapons (No Heavy Laser or Missiles).
- And it´s not as Manouverable as the Marathon or other (newer) Battle Level ships.
- And it have a smaler AF-Capcity as the Omega. (by 2 Dice if I remember right).

It´s advantages are :

- Lots of Mid-Range (Pulse)Weapons, so it can saturate a big volumen of near space with Particle Pulses.
- A littlebit tougher as other EA-Ships, so it can hold out a littlebit longer.
- A small speed increase, so it can catch up with the newer EA Ships.

Because it´s thougher it can exploid caps in enemy lines (which for example the Omega with its Heavy Laser opens), fly through this caps, and then use it´s formidable all-around firepower to pound many enemy ships at the same time.
Or you can use it to guard your flanks.

It´s good too to elemeninate many smaller Ships (Patrol and Skrimish Levle), because of it´s many Pulse Weapons which can be divided to attack more than one ship. And the AP, TL -Trait guarantee, that this smaller Ships (with lower Hull) will get many hits.

So in short is´t a bigger meaner Nova, with fewer Fighters on Board ;).

And I think to replace the 2 Starfury-Flights against 2 Firebolts.
But again, I don´t know if this ship needs the Dogfight capabilities of the Nova Starfury more as the High Firepower of the Firebolt.

Hello.

thanks for the stats. i test this in an game when i have an little bit time.
looks good...

i am paint currently the prototyp of the Quasar,Nova II, Supernova, Crusade Nova Nova this,Nova those...... NOVA...arrrrrrrr.....
this ship needs an static name, really.
i think today evening i can show it.

@ Goldritter:
Thanks :D
Now let's see if I get this right. Aside from the fighter complement, this ship is to the Warlock as the original Nova is to the Omega? A ship dedicated to big guns for beating other capital ships in close combat.

I kinda see the Omegas and Warlocks as more well rounded designs, like the battlecruisers in our real world navies. So in essence: Hyperions evolved into Marathons, Omegas into Warlocks, and Novas into... OK, Urobach I agree we need to name these babies.

NovaII or supernova as a project name is fine, but I'm thinking something that says "STRONG" and "GERMAN" for a class name. What do you guys think?

How does "BISMARCK CLASS" sound? A fitting name for a mighty ship built by a German master shipbuilder... Or "KAISER CLASS" perhaps? :D
To tell you the truth, I'm rather bored with the Greek names.

he he...

nice...thanks. but i don´t really like german names for spaceships. i don´t know...it sounds strange. ok on the other side...greek names gets boring. you have right.

i don´t like really the original name "Quasar" but i don´t want to change it... i want to honour Luciano´s (owner of E.F.N.I.org)work with this.

and Nova, Quasar etc. are space-phenomen names. Supernova is not bad,so.
or we name it Meteor or Asteroid...

hmmm, wait... METEOR sounds good 8)

I see your point Urobach.

Along that line of thinking: Meteor sounds OK. But I think Asteroid doesn't sound right. Quasar is actually not bad. Supernova is a bit too obvious.

Other space/science related phenomenons I find interesting: Magnetar, Entropy, Event Horizon (maybe just Horizon), Galaxy, Nebula, Constellation, Corona, Cosmos (another greek  ), Pulsar...

I´m for "Pulsar".
Its a nice hint what enemys can expect if they come near of this ship  .

If somebody test this ship, can he/she try it against 2 White Stars, 4 Demos/Vorchan ?

I´m interested if this ship is realy a small Ship killer, which I think.

I think it´s because this ship (Quasar, Nova II, ...) is a non-canon / non-series ship.

Where Babylon 5 is a Station, which appeared in the Series and is property of Warner Brothers.

I like meteor, but it doesn't seem to fit the theme. Meteor should be for one armed with a Mass Driver. I think Quasar fits and is nice.

So is the B4, but it will never see the light of day unless someone takes it there. ;)

Wasn't asking for one, it just would be nice to see one done up properly. Also, maybe the Great Mongoose in the Sky would see to doing a few up (ties up the legal stuff nicely) for we mere mortals. I've been toying with doing the earlier Shadow War. ;)
