Crusade EA Project: The Quasar Dreadnought -STARTS-

Phased Polaron beams, twin linked mini beams & self repair & Nasty T-Bolts.
raid
Speed 7- 1/45 turn
Hull 5
25(7)hits 35(12) crew
Interceptors 3
d3 self repair
4 T-Bolts
Fwd 6 AD Mini beam, Twinlinked
P/S 10 AD Mini beam, Twinlinked
Aft 4 AD Mini beam, Twinlinked
Thinking range 12 or 15.
Troops of 2ish

I see this as a throwback design for EarthForce, so it should be using heavy pulse cannons to saturate space with fire and blow up lots of little Drakh Raiders or overwhelm GEG-equipped targets. No hull space to spare for weapons other than pulse cannons, so it's basically just a Nova with better stats like speed and turns to reflect the new technology.

I would suggest the new Nova (Nova Superior) would be either a refit or remodel something like this
raid
speed 7 1/45 turn
hull 5
damage 36/9 crew 45/12
interceptor 3
4 tbolt/starfury flights
Fusion Cannons all mini beam twin linked range 14
F 6
A 4
P/S 10
troops 2
Anti fighter 4 jump engine lumbering
reasoning - they have taken technology given by ISA for the weapons & found fighters are becoming a problem. The ship itself is not much different to 3rd Age with only a slight increase to speed & anti-fighter. The main difference is the weaponry - while not as many AD it is now not interceptable (is that a word ?) & has slightly better range
So what do you think ?

The LLCs from the Nova would be a nice idea. But you would have to remove the SL then, for it to make sense.

Otherwise it would get lots and lots of A: Pulse cannons or B: Rail guns. Preferably option A.

i mean pulse arrays or plasma mortars are an good weapon equipment. supportet by an light laser or better G.O.D. particel beam (light version)and some railguns. to honour the old nova tradition...

You could always whack it up to Battle (or even War). Trying to tone down that potential weapon load out for a Raid slot is probably doing it a big disservice.

How about (designed to replace the Pulse Omega, which was no doubt designed to replace the Nova) something along the lines of:

Priority: Battle
Speed: 8
Turns: 1/45º
Hull: 6
Damage: around 45-50
Crew: around 45
Troops: 5
Craft: None
Special Rules: Anti-fighter 2, Flight Computer, Interceptors 4, Jump Engine
ISD: 22xx+

Heavy Pulse Cannons; 12"; F/P/S; 12/14/14; Twin-Linked
Railguns; 20"; P/S/T; 6/6/8; AP, Double Damage

A lot of the EFNI fluff has been dropped to get it to Battle. Mainly the particle cannons, the missiles and the lasers.

I was tempted to at first (2x Thunderbolt), but then the Apollo does not carry fighters and there was nothing in the EFNI fluff supporting flights of fighters either.

I would keep the flights mainly due to the previous generations of Novas having 4 flights each but make them Tbolts over the older generations having Starfuries

I would also like to keep it as Raid choice for same reason as above

Overall I think people thought the stats were ok but it seems they think the weapons loadout needed changing & thats what we should look at.
I thought the mini beam would be ok based on the reasons I gave but maybe I gave them too many AD for raid PL - we could stick to the tried & true of Hvy Pulse cannons like it had but maybe look at increasing its range to say no more than 15 & keep its AD from 3rd age - reasoning better targetting computers & thus not making it anymore lethal than before but still improved by giving it a couple extra inches of range. This I think would give it an improvement on 3rd age without going over the top or making it a higher PL ship which I personally would rather not do especially if we allow the ability of the devastating broadside idea I presented earlier

I don't think the 1-1 replacement for a regular Nova is really right. Certainly any Nova replacement produced by the EA will be up-specified as far as they can afford.

If you are looking for a shiny new Raid choice, then Urobach's Charbydis might be a better option. While it isn't a broadside monster from it's looks, it could probably fill the role as a mid level Escort frigate for the Marathons that replaced the Hyperion.

i have become new silicon RTV.
now i can make the mold for the ship. ....simultaneus to my Valerius Project.

i need more arms and hands..puhhhhh  :D

SUPERGREAT.

If you can say that. Myself i would put it at battle, simply because the Hyperion and Omega replacements both got a PL boost. However much it pains me to see Crusade raid lvl choices suffer.

And i would be definitely interested in multiple of your ships. (Seeing as you live in a part of the world i wont have to pay taxes extra :D)

If I was you I would seriously look into the legality of such things as copy right, Intellectual Property Rights and the actual specifics of them. Personally I wouldn't chance it, due to the mass of elements of the laws. But if you're going to go through with it, don't do it without looking over the actual laws themselves in their entireity or you may find there are things covered by the laws of copy right and IPR that you weren't aware of; and everyone knows ignorance isn't a defence.

Although on a postive note, excellent conversion work and a great model. Sterling job.

Just email The ENFI guy and ask. you'll have your answer either way. not exactly time consuming or dangerous to do.

Steve

i have tried this several times....
the last time as i do this lies 3 days ago..
always with no answer.

After the Boreas and the Pegasus comes now the Quasar Dreadnought
(i not really like this name....but ok)

Well, if you don't like the name, how about calling it the Enki or the Gilgamesh? ;)
