Crewed Missle flight contact

Mongoose
A question came up last night about the what determines how a Crewed Missle Flight is considered in contact with a ship. Is it the stem, base, or counter?

If it is the base then there should be an offical base size from Mongoose. If it is the counter, then everyone playing with counters are at a disadvantage. If it is the stem then only 2 flights can make contact per turn do to the fact that you can not stack.

Thanks

Unless you're using the hexagonal fighter flights, in which case you can still get 3 flights in by using the corners. Or no flights, if you follow the rule that you can't overlap with the ship's base (unless you're supporting the ship).
It's probably more sensible just to use base contact ;)

Base contact is fine, but the difference between a smal base and a large base could make a differemce in the number of crewed missle flights that actually make contact, which in turn really effect how the Giam work.

I have several ships that are on larger bases and from the pictures in the Mongoose Catalog they are mounted on small bases. Some ships I don't want mounted on small bases because they will fall over and damage the model, the G'Kairth for one. What to plays do if they use 2 bases like the the Poseidon or the Brivoik, when ever it comes out.

If it is base, then Mongoose needs to publish an offical base size for all the ships and clarify the rules.

well its only like fighters ignoring stealth if in base contact, you could say same there really.
Yeah, it would be a valid tactic to mount an entire Minbari fleet (or any fleet vs Gaim) on pinpoint bases (or simply use infinitesemally small counters).

(opponents may hate you for it but there's nothing they can do about it short of stopping the game - not really an option in a tourney)

yeah, wish they would just standardize the base size and be done with it. At least as far as a minimum size. Too many things can be influenced by it.

Would it be easier to standadise the maximum number of fighter/ whatever flights that can attack a ship? No problem then with whatever base you use?

Could either give a set amount for a ships or make it priority level based?

say

might reduce this problem if only in favour of a discussion on how many is the right amount :)

Basically i doesnt matter what methog MGP uses, but we deinitely need a standard rule on this. Otherwise people are going to use ridiculously small counters......... Alot less fighters that are able to make contact......

Be sensible and invoke Rule 7.

which is what?

I think a set amount would help all players as then everyone knows how many can / will get inn contact? simplification often helps me!

Is there a good reason to avoid this? :)

3 for small
6 for medium
9 for big

ships or bases? Guess the latter - maybe better with ships level as then it does not matter which base size someone puts it on or if they are using counters /Fleet Action scale etc ? :)

How about Patrol Skirmish 4
Raid /Battle 6
War Armged 8

? :)

Ok now whats a mickey........sry just dont know the term. I guess you mean dont play against the abuser, but that aint doing you much good in a tourney......

The problem is, when is someone just having smaller bases, and when is someone just unfair, itd be good at least for tourneys since then you have to play against that person to have a defined number thats allowed.

Plus id really like some set base size, because sometimes the bases supplied by MGP do not make that much sense, from the model. Small bases on some ships thatd better get a large one, but that gets a large one, when a small one would be enough.....i just dunno :S

Just checking, but as the attacks happen at the end of the movement phase you can't use a scout re-roll on crewed missile attacks can you?

What to plays do if they use 2 bases like the the Poseidon or the Brivoik, when ever it comes out.

In all cases like this nominate (and ideally identify with the paint job) the 'actual' base - use this base and base stem for fire arcs/range/turning/movement/explosion/etc - the other one is just there for support.
