Crescent Root Painting Tips

Mark over at Crescent Root Studios sent me these tips for painting his buildings. I find the painting extremely easy and fast, making the models much cheaper.....

1. prime with Krylon (dark gray)
2. Drybrush the entire model with Plaid's Apple Barrel Antique white(pale yellow), white(any brand will do) or Ceramcoat's Trail Tan (tan) . I do this three times, once with a very dry brush (with a 2 inch wide brush) to hit all of the details and s second time with a wetter brush to block in more color and finally will a smaller brush to block in any areas that were missed with the larger brushes. Plaid/Apple Barrel and Ceramcoats paints can be found in craft stores or even Wal-Mart... very inexpensive
3. The doors can be painted in a medium brown then dry brushed with a light dust-colored paint. The hinge/bracket details can be painted in a tarnished metal.

On steps 4 and 5, I use an airbrush, I believe the same results can be achieved by hand. NOTE: For steps 4 & 5 the paint should be diluted with water considerably so that is transparent. Do several tests on small sections of the model until the desired consistency of paint to water is achieved.

4. Using Pollycoat's "Dirt" (any earth colored paint will do) lower part of the walls ( dusting), random sections of ground
5. paint the exposed brickwork, random sections of ground in Pollycoats's "rust" although any rust colored paint will do
6. lightly ink the entire models with a diluted brown ink

Enjoy!
